I’m a recent addict to Fab (I own more t-shirts from there than I probably should admit). So imagine my reaction when I got an email from them offering to do a – wait for it – $500 Fab gift card giveaway for you guys. Their site includes items marked down between 10-60% from retail prices across just about every category – home, accessories, art, kitchen, pets, kids, clothing, jewelry, etc. And everything is selected with a discriminating-but-not-too-serious design eye. There’s an emphasis on quirky, weird, and colorful items within their sales… which means there’s a lot of fun to be had while spending the five hundred beans that are up for grabs.

weird?: I have about 25 ceramic tea pots, most of them from the 50ies or 60ies, all white, many with polka dots in red, yellow or blue. I found them at flea markets and thrift stores, some were just 1€ or 2 €/tea pot. Mid century polka dot ceramic just makes me happy.

Fab Me! I have this ceramic sign that my mom made in the 70’s of a boy sitting on the toliet with the saying “the job isn’t finished until the paper work is done” – it’s painted in yellows and browns and I love it!

I have a freshman class group photo of my gradfathers two older brothers from Mississippi in 1925 framed in a grouping in my living room. Everyone that comes over thinks it is a picture from a psych ward! its hysterical…the kids have messsy hair, cray clothes and weird angry facial expressions…and I don’t think it was a “funny” take.

Fab me! Our best example of quirky are the many pieces of kid art around the house. We frame them in the living room, suspend them from Ikea magnet boards in the kitchen and showcase ceramics/pottery or other 3-d objet d’art on tables.

Hmmmmm… my husband doesn’t handle quirk very well, but we do have random antiques everywhere. The quirkiest are probably the shadow boxes I made with watch faces and cat eye glasses. Yes, there are skeleton keys in them, too, but I certainly haven’t seen any with watches and glasses in them as well.

I have a collection of vintage literary books like Poe, Shakespeare, Browning, Tennyson and such, BUT, mixed in there is an eyecatching vintage title “THE HERPES BOOK”. You can always tell who checks out my book collection because there is some kind of exclamation or giggle when they discover that spine!
