For our big two year blogiversary and we’re celebrating with one of the biggest freebies we’ve ever freebied: a $500 Lowe’s gift card.
Did that sink in yet? It still hasn’t for us. When we started hunting for the perfect blogiversary prize a few weeks ago we never thought we’d land something so exciting. It’s like Lowe’s is giving one of you the chance to take on a big project and they’re footing the bill. And we couldn’t be more thrilled to be giving it away.
We probably don’t need to remind you of all the items you could snag during a $500 shopping blitz at Lowe’s – paint, lighting, power tools, holiday decor, flooring. Heck, you could even get a new dishwasher or something. So in case you’re having any trouble picturing where you’d put five hundred Lowe’s dollars, allow us to lend our expertise (that is, our money-spending assistance). Here are a few items that we’ve got our eyes on:
This Idylis air purifier: Since the cold weather will have us closing up our windows and doors soon, the HEPA filter on this baby keeps indoor air from getting stale and could really help Sherry as we get into allergy season.
A new lawn mower: I know the season’s ending, but I’ve had it up to here (picture my hand above my head) with the used mower we bought when we moved back in 2006 (let’s just say it’s no longer self-propelling). Lowe’s online Mower Selector tool helped turn up a bunch of options that we could snag for well under 500 beans.
A cool bathroom sink: With a full bathroom redo moving closer to the top of our to-do list we’re already starting to fantasize about where we can add some special touches, like plopping a vessel sink on top of a thrifted piece of furniture-turned-vanity. And Lowe’s has a bunch of awesome vessel sink options.
I’ve also been contemplating adding some outdoor path lighting or taking our garage organization a step further with some more sophisticated shelving. But we’d better quit letting our minds wander because we’re not the ones who get the $500 gift card… one of you does! Here’s how:
- PRIZE: A $500 Lowe’s gift card (in case you forgot)
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “GIMME THAT $500” (why dance around it, right?) and…
- BONUS QUESTION: Tell us what project you might spend the prize on. Surely we’re not the only ones daydreaming about where $500 could go (and no, we won’t be picking a winner based on this answer – it’ll still be random)
- CONTEST CLOSES: Thursday, September 24th at 8pm EST (that’s an extra day!)
- WINNER: One lucky lady or gent
- PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the USA (but Lowe’s loving Canadians with friends or family in the states can enter and we’ll send it to your US relative/friend who can forward it on to you).
- THE USUAL: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

My home is in desperate need of lighting. As a photographer, I know how important lighting is but since the fixtures all “match” now, I’d have to replace a couple at a time which gets expensive! And to date, I’ve opted for pillows over lighting :)

My husband and I are expecting our first baby in November and we just moved into a new house. Between the half painted walls, bare floors, broken light-fixtures, and 1930’s bathroom-$500 would go a long way!
Congrats on two years!

That would take care of a chunk of our (tiny) kitchen remodel we are getting ready to undertake … painting the cabinets, new granite counter tops and a new refrigerator (not to mention paint for the rest of our condo).

My fiance and I just bought a 1920’s cape in dire need of some TLC so there are many, many projects to tackle. I think I would spend the $500 on some necessary essentials though. Going from apartment living to homeownership leaves one in need of just about everthing from tools to shades. Help!

We’re about to add on to our house (our current tiny tiny bathroom will soon be a shower. That’s how tiny it is) and I could list so many things we could use a giftcard for – light fixtures and faucets and tile and doors and paint . . . or it could help us get a new washing machine . . . seriously, so many things.
*Fingers crossed for good luck*

Gimme that $500! Word. I could totally paint my entire house before my second baby is born in February. My nesting could completely run amok. I’m not sure if my continued morning sickness is the pregnancy or the fact that almost my entire first floor is sponge painted pink and taupe. Gross.
or we could redo some of the flooring . . .
or i could just organize everything. . .
And congrats on the anniversary!!

We live in a (very very) old house that needs a lot of love. So much so that it’d be hard to pick where to start–painting? A new sink? Fixing the stairway railing? So many possibilities….!

Way to go youngsters, happy anniversary!

Honestly, I would give the gift card to my parents. Part of their retirement was involved in selling a house they rented. Well, the last tenants have done a number on the house, and I’m sure the extra $500 to Lowes could help them spiff the place up a little more and help squeeze as much as they could out of this investment.

Oh my god, I could do ANYTHING with that money! But, the priority at my house is re-sheetrocking my husband’s art studio which was damaged in Hurricane Ike (yep, it’s the last part of the disaster from a year ago that we still need to fix). So, please pick me!!

Two words: Replacement windows. My fiance and I purchased a foreclosure house over the summer as our first home. It still has the original windows from 1958. Definitely not energy efficient!

GIMME THAT $500. Please! :) I am finally decorating our bedroom, after having lived here for 2 years, and I really want to switch out the lighting for a cool capiz chandelier in addition to some new lamps. I already have bedding covered, but I also need some paint! Any leftover would DEFINITELY go toward a dishwasher; ours has been on the fritz and I pretty much exclusively hand wash now…
