For our big two year blogiversary and we’re celebrating with one of the biggest freebies we’ve ever freebied: a $500 Lowe’s gift card.
Did that sink in yet? It still hasn’t for us. When we started hunting for the perfect blogiversary prize a few weeks ago we never thought we’d land something so exciting. It’s like Lowe’s is giving one of you the chance to take on a big project and they’re footing the bill. And we couldn’t be more thrilled to be giving it away.
We probably don’t need to remind you of all the items you could snag during a $500 shopping blitz at Lowe’s – paint, lighting, power tools, holiday decor, flooring. Heck, you could even get a new dishwasher or something. So in case you’re having any trouble picturing where you’d put five hundred Lowe’s dollars, allow us to lend our expertise (that is, our money-spending assistance). Here are a few items that we’ve got our eyes on:
This Idylis air purifier: Since the cold weather will have us closing up our windows and doors soon, the HEPA filter on this baby keeps indoor air from getting stale and could really help Sherry as we get into allergy season.
A new lawn mower: I know the season’s ending, but I’ve had it up to here (picture my hand above my head) with the used mower we bought when we moved back in 2006 (let’s just say it’s no longer self-propelling). Lowe’s online Mower Selector tool helped turn up a bunch of options that we could snag for well under 500 beans.
A cool bathroom sink: With a full bathroom redo moving closer to the top of our to-do list we’re already starting to fantasize about where we can add some special touches, like plopping a vessel sink on top of a thrifted piece of furniture-turned-vanity. And Lowe’s has a bunch of awesome vessel sink options.
I’ve also been contemplating adding some outdoor path lighting or taking our garage organization a step further with some more sophisticated shelving. But we’d better quit letting our minds wander because we’re not the ones who get the $500 gift card… one of you does! Here’s how:
- PRIZE: A $500 Lowe’s gift card (in case you forgot)
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “GIMME THAT $500” (why dance around it, right?) and…
- BONUS QUESTION: Tell us what project you might spend the prize on. Surely we’re not the only ones daydreaming about where $500 could go (and no, we won’t be picking a winner based on this answer – it’ll still be random)
- CONTEST CLOSES: Thursday, September 24th at 8pm EST (that’s an extra day!)
- WINNER: One lucky lady or gent
- PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the USA (but Lowe’s loving Canadians with friends or family in the states can enter and we’ll send it to your US relative/friend who can forward it on to you).
- THE USUAL: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

GIMME THAT $500! Holy crap, what a give-a-way!!! With $500 I’d be so torn. We really could use a new dishwasher, but that’s kinda boring. I’d probably go for new light fixtures instead. We’ve got BORING builder-style everywhere, and I want something interesting!

GIMME THAT $500!!
Wow, what a cool prize! I hope I win, and with the winnings, I would purchase a new Bosch drill (I already have it on my Christmas list,) some paint to spruce this place up, and maybe even a new light fixture…I hate the dining room chandelier that came with the apartment. So many possibilities! Thanks for offering this awesome prize (and not just snagging it for yourselves, I would be totally tempted!)
Congrats on the blogiversary!

Gimme that $500!!
We would use it on materials to start on our master bedroom. A total overhaul would of course take a lot more moolah, but we can do an upgrade with $500 easily.

GIMME THAT $500!
I would put that toward ripping out and replacing my crumbling, way-too-steep rear concrete steps. (Not too fun, but it sure is needed!) And if any is left, I’d like to replace my bathroom vanity and buy supplies to finally take the plunge and paint my kitchen cabinets.

So many choices…I guess to start we would use it to buy material to finish an unfinished room in our house (drywall, paint, trim, flooring, etc).
Mike R says
GIMME THAT $500!
Oh, so many choices — we’ve got a few room painting projects coming up, so I think part of the $500 would go to those supplies, but I also want to replace all the door hardware in the house from those ugly brass builder-grade knobs to some more dignified brushed nickel levers. We also could use a new dishwasher (our current one works fine, but it’s loud and doesn’t get dishes super-super clean), and Lowes’ free next-day delivery would certainly help out there.
Naomi Y says
GIMME THAT $500!
I’m going to be a graduate student trying to get my PhD. and everyone knows we’re paid shit… this would really help me set up my FIRST APARTMENT!!! (so excited), and would really go for a total and complete renovation! So, for some people, $500 will only go towards one room… but for me! well, for me.. $500 can make my crappy place in New York a hell of a lot more livable.
God knows the economy isn’t helping me out..
Kristen says
GIMME THAT $500
Our dishwasher just died and I hate washing dishes by hand!!! Save me from the dirty dishwater :)
Lauren F. says
GIMME THAT $500!!!
we live in an apartment so renovation and big diy projects aren’t really worth it, but i could definitely use it for some move friendly items! like some new bookshelves, or patio furniture (for next summer), a new cabinet for our tv…too many options.

GIMME THAT $500!!!
My husband and I have recently been thinking about how to adjust space in our house so that he has a place to work. He works at home and currently he’s working in our 3rd bedroom upstairs. This works perfectly now, but when we fill up that 3rd bedroom with another little one we’re not sure where he’ll find space to work. The basement is an idea we’re thinking about and the $500 would be FANTASTIC to help us on our way!
