Last winter we had a blast at the Richmond Craft Mafia’s Handmade Holiday fair (and later gave away some of our favorite finds). And when we caught wind of their Spring Bada-Bing event happening this Sunday we were all sorts of excited. So we worked with them to put together another craft-tastic, wholly-handmade, reeking-of-Richmond prize pack featuring some of the Craft Mafia’s most active members – and it totals over $350 in value! My favorite part of spring is the first time stepping onto the grass with bare feet. (and not having to deal with finding the right socks in the mornings!) We had an incredibly warm winter here in Minnesota this year, but most years, 5 months of winter weather leaves me completely stir crazy by spring time. Plus, our house just feels so much bigger when the windows can be open and our “3 season” porch and deck can actually be used!

Spring seems to be “The Season” for my husband and me. We met in late spring ’04, were engaged in spring ’07, married in spring ’08, had a baby/bought a house/ and graduated from med school in spring ’10, and now we are enjoying our newborn son in spring ’12. We also love that if you had to declare one thing that Richmond does well in the spring- it’s azaleas! Every day we go outside and stare in marvel at our yard bursting with mature purple, white, magenta, fuschia, and hot pink azaleas!

Without a doubt, I am most loving where I live…because Wilmington, NC tends to transition into a Spring-Summer, leaving the winter chill in its dust! It’s a perfect kind of Spring-Summer where the days are bright, clear and warm and the nights are fresh and cool…and the entire house feels clean and welcoming. My windows have been open for weeks and I haven’t touched that heat or ac dial! The hot humid days of summer are not yet here but we do get a tease a few times a week. Our gardens thrive. EVERYONE is out and active. Concerts around the lake begin, the farmer’s market has had its kick off. There is such a happy, relaxed, thank-goodness-we-are-outside cheerfulness that is contagious. The weather and the community here can’t be beat!
