Fab Freebie: Christmas Lights

This week’s early Christmas present is going to… Nancy (who says she “could certainly use some new lighting” and her favorite holiday glow “has to be my fireplace.”) Congrats Nancy!

As much as we love holiday lights, indoor lighting is something that you stare at every day of the year. So if you don’t love your lighting situation, this is one way to “dude, get on that” without spending any cash. See, recently we were voted one of Lamps Plus’ top home blogs of 2012 (how flattering!) and it came with a $500 shopping spree prize… but you know we don’t take freebies or swag, so the folks at Lamps Plus kindly agreed that we could pass that $500 credit to one of you! We’ve been fans of theirs for a while now since they seem to have about a million options (their chandeliers even popped up in our book a few times) so this week’s winner should have no trouble finding something to spend their light-loot on if they win.

    LAMP ME! Love the look of a “candle” in each window at Christmas time, the non-flammable, battery-operated type of candle.

    I love the blue big fat bulb lights my parents used to hang on our house when I was little. I never saw them anywhere else, but they were so pretty and unique.

    LAMP ME! Oh my golly, I’ve been wistfully browsing for a dining room fixture to replace the hideous one that came with my old house. (Wistfully, key word!)

    One of my favorite things about this holiday season is sinking down into the couch after dinner with nothing but the white twinkle lights of the live tree and mantel garland, along with the “candle fire” from the fireplace candelabra. So comforting and decompressing! Sighhhh!

    Right now we do white lights but when we have kids we will switch over to the big bulb colored lights and I can’t wait!!

    I love a tree full of white lights late at night when the house is quiet and the tree lights are the only ones on. It is such a peaceful feeling.

    My favorite type of Christmas light is the star of Bethlehem, but as I can’t recreate that miracle, I’ll go with the soft glow of a candle in the windows, simple, yet beautiful.

    Lamp Me!

    I love having candles in my windows. They have light sensors, so they come on as soon as it gets dark and stay on through the night. So welcoming to come home after work and see those candles in the windows!

    I love a Christmas tree! With all the lights in the house turned off and just the tree lights on, there is nothing more beautiful!

    LAMP ME! My favorite type of Christmas lights are the really old, really big colored bulbs that get super hot. My mom used to put them on our (real) tree…total fire hazard! They are my favorite because they bring back so many good memories. She had two strands left and gave one to me and one to my sister. I’m pretty sure they don’t sell those anymore. There’s an LED version but it’s just not the same. p.s. I don’t use them, just plug them in when I get a little homesick at Christmastime :)

    LAMP ME! I favor the classic glimmer of electric candlesticks casting a gentle light from front windows. Nothing colored, nothing blinking.

    LAMP ME! We wrapped our dogwood in lights and have icicle lights on our picket fence line…i love christmas lights :)
