As much as we love holiday lights, indoor lighting is something that you stare at every day of the year. So if you don’t love your lighting situation, this is one way to “dude, get on that” without spending any cash. See, recently we were voted one of Lamps Plus’ top home blogs of 2012 (how flattering!) and it came with a $500 shopping spree prize… but you know we don’t take freebies or swag, so the folks at Lamps Plus kindly agreed that we could pass that $500 credit to one of you! We’ve been fans of theirs for a while now since they seem to have about a million options (their chandeliers even popped up in our book a few times) so this week’s winner should have no trouble finding something to spend their light-loot on if they win.

My favorite Christmas lighting is whenever people put lights in the big trees in their front yards. There are people that live by my parents that have this really tall tree and they manage to put giant snowflake lights about 50 feet up in the tree. There’s another by the park, they have this massive oak in the front and they wrap EVERY branch in white rope lights. It looks amazing!

There’s a restaurant in Old Town Alexandria that I love to walk past, they’ve got these beautiful gas-light sconces flanking the doorway. It looks so old-timey and magical, especially at Christmastime.

In addition to our real Christmas tree (with colored lights), we have a 4.5” fake spiral tree in our house. Except for some white lights, it is undecorated. Something about that simpleness paired with the elegant spiral makes me smile :)
