As much as we love holiday lights, indoor lighting is something that you stare at every day of the year. So if you don’t love your lighting situation, this is one way to “dude, get on that” without spending any cash. See, recently we were voted one of Lamps Plus’ top home blogs of 2012 (how flattering!) and it came with a $500 shopping spree prize… but you know we don’t take freebies or swag, so the folks at Lamps Plus kindly agreed that we could pass that $500 credit to one of you! We’ve been fans of theirs for a while now since they seem to have about a million options (their chandeliers even popped up in our book a few times) so this week’s winner should have no trouble finding something to spend their light-loot on if they win.

Our tree is decked out in white lights and all though I love the glow of a real fireplace with three boys under 4 we are playing it safe and putting a hold on fires for a few years :)

I work at a hospital and I love when they put up THEIR christmas lights… they have a few different kinds that fade in and out of different colors and it makes it feel more like a part of the community it’s in than just a big sterile building.

I love those big, old fashioned, colored Christmas tree bulbs, especially the “faceted” looking ones. That’s what my grandma has always used on her tree (where my huge family gets together every Christmas ever) so those are the only ones that really say “Christmas” to me. I just cant get behind the teeny little LED things, and never ever just plain white.

Lamp me! I LOVE white lights for outdoor decorations, and for indoors (like the tree), I’m torn between little colored lights and little white lights. This year we’re doing colors because my husband prefers that, but I think next year I may switch to white!

each color slowly brightens, then dims
fast twinkling
then back to calm slow brightening and dimming again…
It is all so peaceful and soothing to just lay on the couch with my family and turn off the lights except for the tree!

One of my favorite things to do in December is to have the Christmas tree as the only light on in the room. It’s so peaceful to sit by it. (Not to say that I couldn’t use another fabulous lamp in that same room! :p)

I love our fireplace. When we bought our house 2.5 years ago there was a huge gaping hole where a fire should be built. The entire wall is covered in massive stone and is really what sold us on the house. Right before Thanksgiving that fall we had a gas insert put in. We had to buy the biggest one they sell but it fits perfectly! It sits forlorn and sad during the summer but the moment it gets cool outside I’m firing that baby up! I love it. It looks real and makes our room cozy. Can’t beat that!
