As much as we love holiday lights, indoor lighting is something that you stare at every day of the year. So if you don’t love your lighting situation, this is one way to “dude, get on that” without spending any cash. See, recently we were voted one of Lamps Plus’ top home blogs of 2012 (how flattering!) and it came with a $500 shopping spree prize… but you know we don’t take freebies or swag, so the folks at Lamps Plus kindly agreed that we could pass that $500 credit to one of you! We’ve been fans of theirs for a while now since they seem to have about a million options (their chandeliers even popped up in our book a few times) so this week’s winner should have no trouble finding something to spend their light-loot on if they win.

We have a 1960’s aluminum tree in our bay window and I love the way it looks when the sun hits it during the day and the way the color wheel lights it up at night. =) I have to restrain myself from putting it up on November 1st. Ha.

LAMP ME! My favorite holiday lights are the multi-color lights on the Christmas tree we put on the end of our dock. They are reflected in the water. Everyone in our cove puts up dock trees, and together they are awesome!

I kind of love the over the top tacky Christmas lights with all the decorations. My dad used to do this all the time when we were a kid (I think he was trying to re-create Clark Griswold’s Christmas Vacation).
I’m sure the neighbors hated it, and I don’t know that I have the patience or interest in doing it to my own house – but seeing all those lights really makes it feel like Christmas.

But seriously, I love the old fashioned bubble lights we used have on the tree when I growing up. I’m sure they’d be considered a fire hazard today, and they certainly aren’t energy efficient, but they had a nice warm shimmery glow when they got warm!
