As much as we love holiday lights, indoor lighting is something that you stare at every day of the year. So if you don’t love your lighting situation, this is one way to “dude, get on that” without spending any cash. See, recently we were voted one of Lamps Plus’ top home blogs of 2012 (how flattering!) and it came with a $500 shopping spree prize… but you know we don’t take freebies or swag, so the folks at Lamps Plus kindly agreed that we could pass that $500 credit to one of you! We’ve been fans of theirs for a while now since they seem to have about a million options (their chandeliers even popped up in our book a few times) so this week’s winner should have no trouble finding something to spend their light-loot on if they win.

Quite a few years ago, I came home and found my husband and son (about 3yrs old)watching the “fireplace fire” on TV. It runs here on a cable channel 24hrs a day near Christmas. They boys were anxiously awaiting the “hand” to appear to poke the logs. I would never tell them it, but it is one of my favorite chirstmas memories…it was so sweet.

I absolutely love a ton of tiny white lights. I love trees just wrapped from top to bottom in little white lights, white lights outlining the roof and windows, tons of white lights on Christmas trees – it’s the sparkle of Christmas!

I love the idea of a fireplace… but I don’t have one in my apartment, and though we had a fireplace when I was growing up, my Mom never let us light fires. So, I make due with candles and with the “Yule Log Holiday DVD” that I bought on black Friday at Wal-Mart a few years back (it even had “real fire crackling sounds”!). We usually put that on while we decorate the tree.

LAMP ME! I love that during the holidays you can turn off overhead lights and rely on holiday lighting – the lights on the tree, the fire in the fireplace, the lights on the mantel, and a holiday candle!

I’m totally a sucker for colored lights on my Christmas Tree! This year I placed my tree in front of my huge bay window and then trimmed the windows in white lights. It looks gorgeous both inside and outside!

After our experience putting up the tree this weekend, I would say holiday lights that light up. After a few “explosive” strands of lights, and 3 strands of half on/half off lights, we cleared out both Lowes and Walmart’s stocks of the small white lights. And sure enough, on one of the “new” strands, only half the lights worked!

LAMP ME! My favorite holiday light is one I’ve never had before this year – eclectic lights for the tree that look like candles, mimicking the traditional European look. They were a hand-me-down from my grandmother. They add a unique, charming touch that you don’t see very often!
