As much as we love holiday lights, indoor lighting is something that you stare at every day of the year. So if you don’t love your lighting situation, this is one way to “dude, get on that” without spending any cash. See, recently we were voted one of Lamps Plus’ top home blogs of 2012 (how flattering!) and it came with a $500 shopping spree prize… but you know we don’t take freebies or swag, so the folks at Lamps Plus kindly agreed that we could pass that $500 credit to one of you! We’ve been fans of theirs for a while now since they seem to have about a million options (their chandeliers even popped up in our book a few times) so this week’s winner should have no trouble finding something to spend their light-loot on if they win.

Right now my partner and I enjoy calm and sophisticated all-white lights on our tree and balcony railing. But my (secret) favorite have always been the multi-colored lights that flash and flicker to their own loud Christmas music. I actually don’t know if these are made/sold anymore. But the flashier and tackier the better.

Lamp me! Before kids, I was totally all about the simple beauty of plain white lights. But, now that I have a 3.5 year old, seeing her face light up (no pun intended!!) when she says bright, crazy, over-the-top light displays, it makes me realize how awesome and magical that can be too! Life is all about those moments.

I love the glow of a Christmas tree decked out in WHITE lights. My wife and I used to switch off every year- colored lights and white but this year we got a gorgeous pre-lit tree (our old one was looking like a Charlie Brown tree) with white lights! Isn’t she nice???

I love a real fireplace… which we don’t have. But it’s on the list for next house!
Otherwise, we are a white light for tree and separated color for outside (i.e. alternate bushes in red and white for a candy cane look!) I do hope to pull the husband to the dark side & do some multi-color strands around the hizzouse!
