As much as we love holiday lights, indoor lighting is something that you stare at every day of the year. So if you don’t love your lighting situation, this is one way to “dude, get on that” without spending any cash. See, recently we were voted one of Lamps Plus’ top home blogs of 2012 (how flattering!) and it came with a $500 shopping spree prize… but you know we don’t take freebies or swag, so the folks at Lamps Plus kindly agreed that we could pass that $500 credit to one of you! We’ve been fans of theirs for a while now since they seem to have about a million options (their chandeliers even popped up in our book a few times) so this week’s winner should have no trouble finding something to spend their light-loot on if they win.

I like lots of different lights as long as they coordinate. Don’t combine colored strands with white. Or blinking strands with non-blinking. Honestly just avoid blinking light altogether.

I’m a fan of all kinds of Christmas lights (old school, not LED). Colored, white… doesn’t matter just give me a ton of them (but I try to keep it classy and not too crazy)!

Once the lights are on the tree, the lights are on anytime I’m home–doesn’t matter if it’s sunny or not. No twinkles (though they’re charming) and only white….except for the year I did small frosted blue globes. Gotta’ mix it up once in a while–this year, we have no ornaments, just lights, icicle garland, and a scattering of sparkle red fronds here and there. Different is good.

Lamp Me! My favorite holiday lights are the combination of plain white lights on the Christmas tree and a lovely, crackling fire. Unfortunately we only get the former, since the last time we lit a fire in our fireplace our attic filled with smoke and we had to call the fire department.

LAMP ME! I love all Christmas lights! my favorite are the luminaries my grandmother’s neighboohd put out each Christmas eve. Small candles are placed in small paperbags (the kind you send your kid’s lunch in). The cnadles are held up by sand. these get placed curbside so the streets to the church are lit almost like a runway but so much more magical.
