As much as we love holiday lights, indoor lighting is something that you stare at every day of the year. So if you don’t love your lighting situation, this is one way to “dude, get on that” without spending any cash. See, recently we were voted one of Lamps Plus’ top home blogs of 2012 (how flattering!) and it came with a $500 shopping spree prize… but you know we don’t take freebies or swag, so the folks at Lamps Plus kindly agreed that we could pass that $500 credit to one of you! We’ve been fans of theirs for a while now since they seem to have about a million options (their chandeliers even popped up in our book a few times) so this week’s winner should have no trouble finding something to spend their light-loot on if they win.

We don’t have true fires in our fireplace but I’ve got it loaded with pillar candles and when they’re all lit, it feels like the real thing… nothing like the glow of a faux fire during the holidays!

This holiday season, my husband and I have been enjoying the blinding glow of a cheap torch lamp that mimics daytime even at 3am so as to shield us from the reality that grad school sucks. Yeah. I’m looking forward to the time when we can use lamps as cozy, room-making atmosphere-setting accessories instead of the visual equivalent of an energy drink. In the meantime, I can drool over Shades of Light lampshades!

Seriously though – I love the classic look of hundreds of little white lights. Every year around Thanksgiving I had to one of the big box store and stock up on a bunch of 100 bulb strands because each year I think of more places to hang/decorate. This year onlyr 7 foot tall Christmas tree I used 600 bulbs. My wife thinkgs I’m a bit nuts, but oh well!

I haven’t had lights in my house for years. As a young single mother I just never found the time to get them all up and never had the cash to pay anyone so I love love the simplicity of wreaths and a glowing candle in the window….but now that I have my son all “growned up”-lol, I can’t wait to have a gas fireplace installed with the crystals that look like diamonds in a long contemporary shape with shimmer shimmer shimmer… for a year round glow… Merry Christmas

My favorite lights of Christmas are outside lights when you’re driving around at night. My favorites are the colorful old fashioned kind. It just makes your drive so cheery, especially now that it gets dark so early.

I love the warmth, smell and look of a wood burning fireplace, currently don’t have one :(
This year’s favorites for decorations have been the IKEA battery-operated LED light strings. I’ve spruced up wreaths and centerpieces, and stuffed them in lanterns. Two solar-powered ones are aboout to get wrapped up around tomato gages to make outside Christmas trees.

Lamp me! I’ve got a longstanding fondness for bubble lights–you know, the ones you put on the tree, with the stem full of bubbly water, as if the light was filled with champagne? My mom had those as a kid and then searched to find some for the tree we had when I was young…this is how traditions start! :-)
