As much as we love holiday lights, indoor lighting is something that you stare at every day of the year. So if you don’t love your lighting situation, this is one way to “dude, get on that” without spending any cash. See, recently we were voted one of Lamps Plus’ top home blogs of 2012 (how flattering!) and it came with a $500 shopping spree prize… but you know we don’t take freebies or swag, so the folks at Lamps Plus kindly agreed that we could pass that $500 credit to one of you! We’ve been fans of theirs for a while now since they seem to have about a million options (their chandeliers even popped up in our book a few times) so this week’s winner should have no trouble finding something to spend their light-loot on if they win.

LAMP ME! When I was a kid, I loved as many colors on the Christmas lights as possible. Nowadays I tend to like more of a monochromatic approach. All white, all blue, all whatever… :)

My favorite kind of lights are the non-LED white lights (not a fan of the blue-ish white…!) – we have them on our tree, even though I know my husband would prefer colored lights I love the way the white lights look with my ornaments.

LAMP ME! The hubby and I love fire! he likes to start it and i like to enjoy it’s warmth. :) we have two fire pits in the backyard and a fireplace in our living room that get as much use as we can squeeze in during the 10 days of cold weather that we get in South Texas. :)

Even though I’m grown and put up Christmas trees of my own, there is nothing like being at my parents’ place for the holidays, sitting on the couch and basking in the soft glow of their lovely tree. So many wonderful memories!

My personal favorite is the festive glow of a Christmas tree in our living room. When I was little, I used to like to sit downstairs at night after everyone had gone to bed just to stare at the tree.
A close second was a neighbor’s house on my way home, who had a crazily decked out house for Christmas, set in time to music, which they broadcasted on an FM station on the radio. Every night as I would get close to their house I would frantically turn to the radio station so I could catch the music as I passed their house. It would brighten my drive home every day. Unfortunately they moved away, so no more fun decorated house on my way home. =(
