Fab Freebie: Christmas Lights

This week’s early Christmas present is going to… Nancy (who says she “could certainly use some new lighting” and her favorite holiday glow “has to be my fireplace.”) Congrats Nancy!

As much as we love holiday lights, indoor lighting is something that you stare at every day of the year. So if you don’t love your lighting situation, this is one way to “dude, get on that” without spending any cash. See, recently we were voted one of Lamps Plus’ top home blogs of 2012 (how flattering!) and it came with a $500 shopping spree prize… but you know we don’t take freebies or swag, so the folks at Lamps Plus kindly agreed that we could pass that $500 credit to one of you! We’ve been fans of theirs for a while now since they seem to have about a million options (their chandeliers even popped up in our book a few times) so this week’s winner should have no trouble finding something to spend their light-loot on if they win.

    We’re expecting our first baby this summer and some new lighting for our apartment would be awesome!

    My fav holiday lights are the simple white ones we got for our very first Christmas tree (a real one!) this year. A lot of firsts for us!!

    I love the white twinkly lights, but not as much as a fireplace! Alas, living in Arizona means there’s not much call for a real fire ;-)

    LAMP ME!!

    I am a boring white light gal. And I love candles in the windows though I gave up on it since it is a pain to turn them on and off. Maybe when technology is a little more advanced and there is a whole house christmas candle “clap-on” will I try it again;)

    LAMP ME! We just did white lights on our tree for the first time (usually they’re multi-color), and I must say… I love it! It’s making the lighting situation in the rest of our home look pretty horrendous though!

    I always love gazing into a crackling fire. I don’t have a fireplace, but it’s still my favorite wintery light, the warmth and the colors.. it’s just mesmerizing

    LAMP ME! This year, I’m most exciting about seeing the light of a fire in the fireplace at our new (to us) house! Something about actually being allowed to make a fire in my own house makes me feel very grown up ;)

    I have always loved the lights my parents put on their Christmas tree – they are big old multi-color bulbs that all blink at different rates – some real slow, some a little quicker, or don’t blink at all. Just reminds me of being home for Christmas:)

    Lamp me…I love, love a fully bare decidious wrapped head to toe in little white lights.

    I once did this on a tree in an old house and it took me so long to do it, I didn’t take them down at the end of the season and left them up for next year. A few years later when we finally were moving away I went to take them down and the poor choked tree had grown around some parts so I had to cut the pieces out. Whoops.

    LAMP ME! (That sounds rather…risque, I don’t know why.)

    My husband loves the elegance of white Christmas lights, and I love the colorful sparkle. We compromise with a white-light tree, and colorful elsewhere. It’s wonderful.

    I love lights edging the eaves of houses, but not the LED bulbs – they bug me eyes for some reason. Favorite combinations are red/white or red/white/green. So festive!

    LAMP ME! One year we did a lights-only tree with a mix of colored and white lights. When the tree is decorated with other ornaments I like white lights!
