on our first christmas together, my family has an annual open house party on christmas day and he lives in Pittsburgh so I knew he wouldnt be able to come down, but he ended up driving all the way down to DC to surprise me on christmas, walked into the party and I was so surprised, everyone knew but me. The most recent surprise was when my uncle sent me the large wooden dump truck that he had built for my brother when he was a baby. My brother passed away when he was 16 (I was 13) and we welcomed our first son (and child) into the world in May and named him after my brother, Jacob Michael. So when my uncle sent this dump truck to me, it meant the world! I bawled instantly as my husband was opening the package and I realized what it was!

It was supposed to be that them coming from out of town and giving me some quality time hanging out, going out to dinner & bowling was my gift. One day he walked in with a single carnation from the floral shop, for no reason. A carnation might not seem like much, but it was the first flower he ever gave me, so it was special.

I’ll never forget, when my husband and I were dating (we were about 17) he went grocery shopping with me and while I roamed the aisle gathering what was on the list my dad had given me he went to “get something to drink”. When we got back out to the car his sneaky self had bought me a single rose and laid it in the seat for me. At 17 I was OH SO impressed at his sweetness and at 35 I still am.
