My husband and I had a “shotgun wedding”, and I wasn’t expecting a ring. What mattered to me was becoming a family with our son. So, while getting married, the officiant asked if there would be any rings. And to my COMPLETE surprise, my husband pulled out MY wedding ring! Oh, I was floored! Second best gift of my life… after my son of course. :)

My best surprise was for my birthday 2 yrs ago. I had fallen in love with some backsplash tile that was way out of budget(Interstyle Barcode glass tile in Dragonfish.) As in orders of magnitude, add a couple zeros more than budget. When I found out the price, I went off to look for a new love.
We’re DIYers and the kitchen reno stretched out for months with the backsplash of just drywall for about a year. My birthday rolled around and I opened up a box of my stunning first love glass tile.

One summer, my husband (who is an archaeologist in the Middle East) was out of the country for several weeks, while I was home with the kids. He secretly arranged for a local florist to deliver a small bouquet of flowers to me every Friday while he was gone. It was such a lovely surprise. The florist, on delivering the last bouquet, said to me, “We’ve got to stop meeting like this.” We did stop because my husband’s dig stint was over; however, he created a wonderful memory for me of that not-so-easy time single-parenting.
