Gift me! I once had a Chocolate Mousse Torte sent to my fiance’s (then boyfriend’s) office to commemorate the anniversary of the day we met…but really more to embarrass him. A week later he sent a floral arrangement to my office, which he knows I find to be humiliating. I called them my “spite flowers.”

For my 27th birthday, my husband sent one of my stuffed animals all around the world. “Shelton” the turtle went to Japan, China, Florida, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and back to Texas. He had friends and family take pictures of him and then send him home. He then made a DVD that had a soundtrack and captions. It was the best present ever!

I love fresh flowers. The first bouquet my husband ever bought me was a sight! The store was busy so he designed the bouquet himself, and he is colorblind. For my 22nd birthday, my girlfriend (now wife) planned a surprise trip to the Outer Banks for me with a bunch of my friends. Unfortunately with a mid May birthday, I really had to work on projects and study for finals. She kept asking me if I could spare a whole weekend for a month or two, but I kept telling her I could only spare a couple hours (wasn’t that enough to have dinner??) In the end I heard my birthday trip was a great time, while I did stay home and studied for finals and worked on class projects. We finally did make it down to the Outer Banks together this past summer, six years later.

My husband (then boyfriend) sent me flowers the day that I got my wisdom teeth out. We had only been dating for a month or so and I had never been given a bouquet before, so it was a sweet and wonderful surprise. Of course, I was still heavily medicated, so it is a fuzzy memory. the best surprise gift i’ve gotten (perhaps the only one?) was from my now-husband shortly before we started dating. i lived in the dorms with no kitchen and a passion for pie-baking; he was the attractive grad student with an apartment. i went to make pies for a party we were going to, but we had to improvise because he didn’t have a rolling pin. the next time i can over to make pie (which happened to be on my birthday — he and some friends were making dinner, i had to do the dessert) he had a rolling pin, and at the end of the night told me it was my birthday present. aww. =)

My boyfriend gave me an Ipod for Christmas a few years ago. Cool gift, I liked it. Then I turned it over and saw he had the word “humahumanukanuka” engraved on the back! It’s the Hawaiian state fish. A nice memory from our vacation where we snorkled and giggled while trying to pronounce the names of the fish we were seeing. Suddenly that cool Ipod was so much more.
