Fab Freebie: Gotta Hand It To You

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

Thanks to random.org, we’ve got a Merry (belated) Christmas prize going out to… Kristin Aune (who made t-shirts for both of her kids, ornaments, buckeyes and has been trying to perfect her fudge pie recipe). Congrats!

Wahoo. Hope you guys all had an awesome holiday weekend (you can see a sliver of ours here). As we mentioned on Friday, we’ll be stopping in with one quick post each day this week (amongst family hosting, feverish book-deadline writing, and priming & painting all of our kitchen cabinets). But we couldn’t wait to share today’s giveaway that we wrangled after seeing so much amazing stuff at our local Handmade Holiday craft fair. So this week’s lucky winner will get:

  • An 8×10 letterpress print (any choice of quote & color), a set of blueprint notes (airplane, boat, golfcart, knots, wave, or lighthouse) and a leather blank book from Almanac Industries. These Baltimore-based bookbinders and letterpress gurus bring a wonderful worn and masculine vibe to these printed prizes.
  • $50 towards Funnel Cloud Studio on Etsy. Obviously we love her Virginia-themed art, but she also has a bunch of cheerful patterned prints and cheeky illustrations to choose from too.
  • A 26-letter ornament set and this green vase from Turnerbots. And we thought our J, S, C and B initial ornaments were cool. Someone’s about to get a whole alphabet full of candy colored ceramics, along with a V-A-S-E.
  • $50 towards Zou Zou’s Basement on Etsy. We loved the bunny print that we bought, and this $50 is enough to snag two of her colorful prints.

 Handmade Giveaway 2

  • PRIZE: Everything mentioned above
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “HAND IT TO ME” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … what you’ve made with your own hands recently. Did you bake something for the holidays? Did you give a handmade gift this weekend? Or have you tackled a DIY or homemade art project recently?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, December 28th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • DISCOUNT: 10% off any item in Turnerbots’ Etsy shop until January 15th, 2012 with the coupon code YOUNGHOUSE.
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Funnel Cloud Studio, Turnerbots, Almanac Industries and Zou Zou’s Basement.

    HAND IT TO ME!

We made Christmas cookies. I have two boys, so most of our cookies wound up being pteranadons and triceratopses. Nothing says the holidays quite like a dinosaur decorated with Easter sprinkles.

I made a difficult homemade coconut cream pie for my fiance completely from scratch! I also made homemade mason jar snow globes! Even though Christmas is over (so sad) I’m going to be doing more holiday crafts since I actually have time now!

I usually make biscotti for the family gifts, but with a 14 month old, I was a little short on time! Instead, I bought chocolate dipped pretzels and added a drizzle homemade peppermint icing to them. It turned out really good! :)

My hands have been busy for this Christmas…I made some very cute coasters for friends and family as Christmas gifts (pictures will eventually show up on my blog…key word, “eventually”), I made homemade cinnamon buns for Christmas morning brunch, and at least once a year I break out the challah bread. This is a long process involving much kneading of delicious eggy bread!

I made a lot this year… but one of my favorites was the gifts for our neighbors. This was our first Christmas in this house, and we hadn’t even met some of our neighbors yet, so I made caramel popcorn and did them up in yellow bags with homemade individual tags and bows, etc. They were so pretty, and I loved going around to all the houses and dropping them off!

I made a neat gift card holder for my mother-in-law this Christmas. It seemed a little impersonal to just hand her a stack of gift cards, so I created a little booklet and each one slid onto a pocket kn each page. Then I gave it a little bling with some ribbon and jingle bells. It turned out great!

HAND IT TO ME! We’ve made a few things lately. We went to a holiday party and were instructed to bring an ornament, so I took a photo of their house, gathered sticks from the yard… and made the photo the center/bottom of a “nest”. Also, my husband is a marathon runner and we recently made a plaque-like board with wooden letters that spell MARATHON with little hooks beneath each letter for each of his medals!

    HAND IT TO ME

Ours was a mostly-handmade holiday this year – woven bracelets for my beautiful sisters, ornaments for our cousins, cookies for our family and friends, picture frames with family photos for the grandmas. Our 4 year old even got in on the creative party – she made christmas trees out of styrofoam cones, tissue paper, and old napkin rings for her grandma and grandpa. A tiny budget and a whole lot of handiwork made it the best Christmas ever!

This is the first Christmas my husband and I spent in our new home in California (2000 miles away from family) and I just had to decorate sugar cookies for the holidays. So I made the sugar cookies and got all the decorating fixin’s and we went to town! I also gave paintings (that I painted) to family for Christmas and bought gifts for our nephews and niece from local artisans. And now, I think I will go have one of those sugar cookies :)

After hearing my mother and grandmother talk (this past Thursday) about wanting to put an island in the kitchen for more counter space, my brother and I decided to quicly make one for her as a Christmas gift. We were able to get all the supplies at Home Depot, cut, sand, and assemble the basic structure in 24 hours and see Mom cry when she saw it on Christmas day. We are pretty proud of ourselves. :)
