An early Christmas present (in the form of this $500 Visa gift card) has randomly chosen to come to the hands of… Mary (whose dream house would be a “big cozy log cabin out in the woods” complete with fishing pond, swimming pool, hot tub, huge whirlpool tub in her bathroom and a giant walk in closet. Her fantasy list doesn’t end there, so check out her comment for the rest). Congrats Mary!
With a URL as broad as Homes.com, there are a lot of topics you might think they cover. Because people buy homes. They decorate homes. They do home improvements. You get the idea. Well, Homes.com does cover all of those things – from all stages of the home buying process to decor and DIY. We especially enjoyed their home values and city profiles (because we’re nerds for stuff like that). But what you’ll probably enjoy the most is the chance to win a $500 Visa gift card from Homes.com this week. Yup, five hundred dolla dolla bills (in plastic form) to spend wherever you’d like for whatever stage of home ownership you’re currently enjoying. Oh yeah, and they’re also giving away a signed copy of our book over on their blog.

HOMES ME.
My next house will not be split-level! Man, one staircase and two kids under the age of 5 is a daily disaster waiting to happen! I think I can only handle single-story ranches going forward in my life.
AnnMarie says
Homes Me! ….would love a wrap around porch.
Lin says
Homes me! A walkable, mixed-use new suburban neighborhood to get away from using our car so much. We love our current neighborhood, but have to drive way too much.
Allison Burton says
HOMES ME! Definately a bigger yard, with woods and fun places to explore for the kiddos!
Shannon says
HOMES ME!
My must have item is a basement! I swore I was going to get one when we moved from FL to NJ but the house we fell in love with was lacking a basement….I thought it would be fine at the time but I really really wish I had a basement!
Jessica says
“HOMES ME!”
2 bathrooms!! One is a pain.
Julia says
Homes me! I’d like a really old, horrible kitchen so I would have to update it instead of the perfectly functional but not my taste kitchen that I have now.
Melissa says
HOMES ME! Please. My boyfriend and I live in a one bedroom apartment so just owning our first home is the “must have!”
Katie says
HOMES ME!
I’m a renter, but would LOVE a front porch and no more upstairs neighbors :)
Amber says
Homes me!! I will always want a fireplace in any house I live in :)
Laurie says
Homes me! We moved to a great house last year but have yet to get to work on the master bathroom, so I would love to have a bathroom floor!
Missy says
HOMES ME!
My must-have would be an updated Master Bath.
Sarah W. says
Homes me! Off street, covered parking!
Kathy says
HOMES ME! I feel like our current has everything we need. The only thing that I’d like different is a private backyard because we currently back up to a bunch of other houses. Maybe I could use the $500 towards a new privacy fence!!
Laura says
“HOMES ME!”
More square footage for sure, both the home and the yard!
Meredith says
homes me! a bigger kitchen.
Lisa says
HOMES ME! We just bought a house–and it’s a total fixer upper. But if we were to do it allllll over again, I’d choose one with a little less big projects…seems a little overwhelming right now. :)
LizO says
Homes me! We’d actually look for less square footage! We’re in a 2400 square foot house (The fully finished basement really adds a ton of space), but it’s entirely too much space for us, and too much mortgage.
Jessica says
HOMES ME! We are about to put our house on the market and the number one thing we’re looking for is a better neighborhood.
Dianne says
HOMES ME!!!! Bigger secondary bedrooms.
Michelle says
HOME ME!!
This is our third house in three years – so I have a laundry list of must haves for when we pull the home purchasing trigger again. Here they go:
Laundry hook up (upstairs preferred), dishwasher, 1 1/2+ bathrooms, 3+ bedrooms, small to medium fenced in back yard, within 5 miles of work/church, within 30 minutes of family, non-oil heat, insulated walls, replacement windows, newer roof, character, lots of windows.
Shanelle says
HOMES ME!!
A fireplace is always a must, we lived through an ice storm, where we had no electricity for several days! Also, a large kitchen, and a pool would be a bonus;)
Ashley says
HOMES ME!
We definitely need to live near excellent schools! Our babies are just 1 year away from school.
Abby says
Homes me!
My top priority is character. We have a house from the early 90s, back when builders didn’t have much time for that apparently.
Kasia says
HOMES ME!
We would look for more square footage. With a big kitchen. And a pantry. And a mud room. And I would want a yard as big as we have now (about an acre). I would also like a master bathroom. I LOVE the house we live in now, but it’s definitely helped me decide what will be a dealbreaker for the next house. (Like our current lack of master bath and mudroom).
Tracy Napper says
HOMES ME! We love our house so if we had to move we’d need to stay in the same school district until our daughter graduates high school (in 5.5 years)!
jessicab says
HOMES ME! Our next home must have a (mostly) level yard. Our house on a hill didn’t seem like a big deal as first time buyers but its been difficult to maintain the yard and a major workout to mow!
Lisa E says
HOMES ME! Sulphur free water! Oh it’s not horrible as we have a whole house softener, but between that and it being hard water, if you don’t keep up with things, you get stains in the showers. The water softener also makes you feel like you never rinse off. I would just like to go back to good old city water, yet still live in the country! Jus’ sayin’!!!
Joanna S. says
Homes Me!!
A home that isn’t a rental so we could have a dog… oh and I’d like a laundry room that isn’t in the garage!
Carla says
“HOMES ME!” I would have to say that a bigger yard would be my “must have”. I grew up in the country and I miss having a garden and privacy.
Dee says
Homes me ! A nice backyard !
Stephanie says
HOMES ME!
We actually just put on offer in on a house with all of our must-haves! But most important must-have would be an open floor plan (or the option to create one).
Kelly D says
Homes me, please! 2 bathrooms and washer/dryer are a must!
Elizabeth says
HOMES ME! we are actually under contract on a new house and the number one thing I wanted was a nice, established neighborhood.
renee says
HOMES ME! I would have to have a BIG walk in closet, with room for all of my clothes and shoes. I hate having to take out seasonal items to make room for the next season. There is nothing worse than having all of your clothes smooshed together.
Kerry says
Homes me!
If I were to buy a home today, the top of my list would be a dishwasher and washing machine/dryer. After years of renting without either, those are my musts.
Sara C says
HOMES ME!! More square footage and a fourth bedroom would be awesome!
Amanda Pearl says
HOMES ME! My next home will have a laundry room! Being in a closet is no fun.
Katharine says
HOMES ME!
Any new house I might buy would have to have plenty of storage space. (But if we’re talking fantastical must-haves, mine would totally be a secret room. Shh.)
shannon says
Homes me! Searching for our first home now, and neighborhood is most important. Lots to think about though!
Hilary Sutor says
HOMES ME!
A second full bathroom. Attached to our “master” is the smallest half-bath ever. It makes ZERO sense. We never use it.
Karen says
“HOMES ME!”
I would have to have a large kitchen with a working island and stools for the kids!
Whitney says
Homes Me! I keep telling my husband no matter where we live next, my house must have a fireplace and a deep clawfoot bathtub…my two favorite things about my childhood homes.
Megan @ Rappsody in Rooms says
HOMES ME! A master closet. I wish. Sigh.
Mindie Felcher says
HOMES ME!
We just bought a new house, but when we were looking a play room that was separate from the main common area, but in close range was a must have!
Megan says
HOUSE ME!
At the top of my list would be windows that face the front yard! Weird, but true! We bought our current house and only after we moved in did we notice that the first floor only has windows facing the back of the house!
MegS says
HOMES ME!
We are currently in the process of buying a home! We’re not new to homeownership, but we’re new to this city and state, and so we’re a bit terrified to make such a big commitment. The reason we love this house is because it is really, really charming (like, tiny old 1920s farmhouse with windows to the ceiling!) and has a big yard. If/when we close, I will have to send you guys some pics!!!
Luke says
HOMES ME!
I think we need more entertaining space. Our smallish ranch now sees our dinner parties eat in the living room :(
Grant says
Homes Me!
A bigger yard and somewhere to put a pool table!
Megan says
HOMES ME!
Our next home must have a BIG yard and more square footage.
