Fab Freebie: Homes On Homepage

*** This giveaway is now closed. See who won below! ***

An early Christmas present (in the form of this $500 Visa gift card) has randomly chosen to come to the hands of… Mary (whose dream house would be a “big cozy log cabin out in the woods” complete with fishing pond, swimming pool, hot tub, huge whirlpool tub in her bathroom and a giant walk in closet. Her fantasy list doesn’t end there, so check out her comment for the rest). Congrats Mary!

With a URL as broad as Homes.com, there are a lot of topics you might think they cover. Because people buy homes. They decorate homes. They do home improvements. You get the idea. Well, Homes.com does cover all of those things – from all stages of the home buying process to decor and DIY. We especially enjoyed their home values and city profiles (because we’re nerds for stuff like that). But what you’ll probably enjoy the most is the chance to win a $500 Visa gift card from Homes.com this week. Yup, five hundred dolla dolla bills (in plastic form) to spend wherever you’d like for whatever stage of home ownership you’re currently enjoying. Oh yeah, and they’re also giving away a signed copy of our book over on their blog.

    HOMES ME.

My next house will not be split-level! Man, one staircase and two kids under the age of 5 is a daily disaster waiting to happen! I think I can only handle single-story ranches going forward in my life.

    HOMES ME!

My must have item is a basement! I swore I was going to get one when we moved from FL to NJ but the house we fell in love with was lacking a basement….I thought it would be fine at the time but I really really wish I had a basement!

Homes me! We’d actually look for less square footage! We’re in a 2400 square foot house (The fully finished basement really adds a ton of space), but it’s entirely too much space for us, and too much mortgage.

    HOME ME!!

This is our third house in three years – so I have a laundry list of must haves for when we pull the home purchasing trigger again. Here they go:

Laundry hook up (upstairs preferred), dishwasher, 1 1/2+ bathrooms, 3+ bedrooms, small to medium fenced in back yard, within 5 miles of work/church, within 30 minutes of family, non-oil heat, insulated walls, replacement windows, newer roof, character, lots of windows.

We would look for more square footage. With a big kitchen. And a pantry. And a mud room. And I would want a yard as big as we have now (about an acre). I would also like a master bathroom. I LOVE the house we live in now, but it’s definitely helped me decide what will be a dealbreaker for the next house. (Like our current lack of master bath and mudroom).

HOMES ME! Sulphur free water! Oh it’s not horrible as we have a whole house softener, but between that and it being hard water, if you don’t keep up with things, you get stains in the showers. The water softener also makes you feel like you never rinse off. I would just like to go back to good old city water, yet still live in the country! Jus’ sayin’!!!

    HOMES ME!

We are currently in the process of buying a home! We’re not new to homeownership, but we’re new to this city and state, and so we’re a bit terrified to make such a big commitment. The reason we love this house is because it is really, really charming (like, tiny old 1920s farmhouse with windows to the ceiling!) and has a big yard. If/when we close, I will have to send you guys some pics!!!
