Fab Freebie: Homes On Homepage

*** This giveaway is now closed. See who won below! ***

An early Christmas present (in the form of this $500 Visa gift card) has randomly chosen to come to the hands of… Mary (whose dream house would be a “big cozy log cabin out in the woods” complete with fishing pond, swimming pool, hot tub, huge whirlpool tub in her bathroom and a giant walk in closet. Her fantasy list doesn’t end there, so check out her comment for the rest). Congrats Mary!

With a URL as broad as Homes.com, there are a lot of topics you might think they cover. Because people buy homes. They decorate homes. They do home improvements. You get the idea. Well, Homes.com does cover all of those things – from all stages of the home buying process to decor and DIY. We especially enjoyed their home values and city profiles (because we’re nerds for stuff like that). But what you’ll probably enjoy the most is the chance to win a $500 Visa gift card from Homes.com this week. Yup, five hundred dolla dolla bills (in plastic form) to spend wherever you’d like for whatever stage of home ownership you’re currently enjoying. Oh yeah, and they’re also giving away a signed copy of our book over on their blog.

Homes me! We just bought a house and I’m pretty happy with it! there are things we want to change of course, so perhaps I would like a house with a secret stash of cash hidden in one of the drawers, which we find on move-in day and would pay for the updates?!?! :)

A new home would HAVE to have a bigger/better kitchen. It doesn’t have to be huge, just bigger than the poorly laid out, teeny tiny thing I have now.

    HOMES ME!

We’re actually in the midst of building a home (yes, it’s as exciting, yet intimidating as it sounds) and my number one criteria for our land was location. First, I wanted to make sure we were in the school district I prefered and second, I wanted a nice neighborhood — not too big, not too small, with families in similar seasons of life as us. I think we hit the jackpot! We’re within walking distance to our school of choice, and so far, all of the neighbors we’ve met have been great. I started blogging about the process from the day we broke ground, if you’re interested (http://lot23blog.blogspot.com). :)

If we were buying a new house today, I would probably look for one with a third bedroom on the main floor. Our second baby will be here in a few months, and I’m a bit nervous about the “sharing a bedroom” transition.

The most important thing we would look for in a new home is a yard that has at least five wooded acres. The house can be updated and changed, but the lot is there to stay!

HOMES ME! There are quite a few things on our list for our next home, but at the top right now is the ability to fence in the yard. We actually just moved into our brand new home last year, but didn’t find out until 2 days before closing that the city won’t allow us to fence in most of our back yard due to a buried sewer pipe… Super annoying with three kids and a dog!
