Fab Freebie: I Dream Of Greenie

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

This week’s prize is doubly exciting for us: it’s 100% eco-friendly and comes from a local Virginia business (just up the road from Richmond in Culpeper, VA). Green Nest‘s got such a broad smorgasbord of kind-to-the-earth gifts that we’re psyched that this week’s winner will score such stylish loot. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get to it.

First off, the winner gets their choice of any 3 x 5 or 4 x 6 Fab Habitat recycled rug (woven from recycled polypropylene straws). Here’s a sampling of some of 50+ designs you get to pick from.

Green Nest Rugs

Then there’s a soy candle that comes in a decorative silk-screen glass. There are 19 designs to choose from and after the 90 hours of candle burning time you can reuse the glass (and even drink out of it).

Green Nest Skeem Candles

But you won’t necessarily need that glass for drinking because the prize pack includes your choice of recycled soda/beer bottle tumbler set (you know I’m jealous of whoever wins this one since I failed miserably at my own DIY attempt). There are four in a set and 5 styles to choose from.

Green Nest Bottles

Last but not least, a green prize pack wouldn’t be complete without a little greenery. The winner can choose two of these Garden-in-a-Bag kits for growing some herbs without even having to get your hands dirty.

Green Nest Garden In A Bag

So that’s the prize. Stay tuned for a discount on Thursday, but for now let’s get to the entry details:

  • PRIZE: A green prize pack as described above from Green Nest.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “GREEN ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …let’s use this a chance to share some eco-friendly tips. Have you started taking any extra steps to be green lately? Or do you have an especially easy tip to share with everyone? Or, as we witnessed in Ithaca, have you seen any especially green locations recently?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 22nd at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The Lower 48 United States
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from Green Nest.

    GREEN ME, please! :)

my husband and I are building our dreamhouse. Construction materials very quickly can accumulate a tremendous amount of waste. To reduce landfill (and to flex our creative muscles), we repurpose all of our building scraps. For example, our stone floor tiles are 10×15″, so with the cuts, we cut them into tiny finger strips and are using those for a backsplash. Also, my husband works for a high end architectural stone company. We often take the reject piles of stone and will use them for pavers when we get to landscaping. A bit of sweat equity hauling all of that stone saves tons (literally) in landfill space.

My husband and I put a brick in our toilet tank. It takes up space which means the toilet needs less water to reach its fill mark. It also saves some “green” on our water bill!

    GREEN ME!!!

We’re making a conscious effort to be more green in our day to day lives. We recycle about 90% of all the products we use, we take our own bags to the grocery stores, I’m finding new uses for my unwanted items rather than creating more waste in our landfills by throwing them away. I do more online so that I generate less paper. Every little bit helps!

    GREEN ME!

I’m a college student – so I always have to take a snack to munch on during classes throughout the day. Lately, I’ve been packaging my snack in tupperware instead of a ziploc. Yes, it is a little bigger and less easier to stow away in a backpack – but I’m being green AND saving money on ziplocs!

My husband and I have been discussing ways for us to go green. We are thinking compost bin and rain barrel as our first stabs at being more eco friendly. I can’t wait to see what people share!!!!

Green me! The husband and I started a container garden this summer. We got a ton of vegetables and we got to use the compost we had been working on all winter. We also decided not to install our window A/Cs this year. Although it was tough and we complained our way through a few muggy afternoons, we felt good about it the sacrifice in the end.

We do a few small things – cloth diapers (love BumGenius!), re-use ziploc bags, all cloth bags for groceries and other shopping (mall stores totally give you the weird eye when you say you have your own bag), cloth napkins, trying to get rid of all plastic containers and use glass, SIGG bottles for water… small steps right?

What a great giveaway! At the beginning of the summer I started a glass and aluminum recycling program with my elderly neighbors. It wasn’t that they didn’t want to recycle before, but that many of them just couldn’t handle the physical demand of hauling things to the recycle center every week or two. So, now I pick up a couple extra bins a month and we’re all happier, not to mention I get to know some really fascinating people better!

GREEN ME! This comes at the perfect time – I was just starting to look for rugs like these to replace the rug in my living room (which a certain canine who shall remain nameless has ruined). I want something that is impervious to various canine shenanigans or at least highly washable. And the green factor of these is an added bonus. Recycling in my neighborhood is easy-peasy because we can recycle all kinds of things and we don’t have to separate it!

Green me! I’ve been reading “Animal, Vegetable, Miracle” and have been so inspired to think about the environmental impact of how my food gets to my table. While the healthy appeal of organic has always appealed to me, now I’m making an effort to incorporate local food as much as possible too. We’ve started with local milk (in glass bottles, which I love!) and will probably be making more forays into local food soon.
