Fab Freebie: I Dream Of Greenie

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

This week’s prize is doubly exciting for us: it’s 100% eco-friendly and comes from a local Virginia business (just up the road from Richmond in Culpeper, VA). Green Nest‘s got such a broad smorgasbord of kind-to-the-earth gifts that we’re psyched that this week’s winner will score such stylish loot. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get to it.

First off, the winner gets their choice of any 3 x 5 or 4 x 6 Fab Habitat recycled rug (woven from recycled polypropylene straws). Here’s a sampling of some of 50+ designs you get to pick from.

Green Nest Rugs

Then there’s a soy candle that comes in a decorative silk-screen glass. There are 19 designs to choose from and after the 90 hours of candle burning time you can reuse the glass (and even drink out of it).

Green Nest Skeem Candles

But you won’t necessarily need that glass for drinking because the prize pack includes your choice of recycled soda/beer bottle tumbler set (you know I’m jealous of whoever wins this one since I failed miserably at my own DIY attempt). There are four in a set and 5 styles to choose from.

Green Nest Bottles

Last but not least, a green prize pack wouldn’t be complete without a little greenery. The winner can choose two of these Garden-in-a-Bag kits for growing some herbs without even having to get your hands dirty.

Green Nest Garden In A Bag

So that’s the prize. Stay tuned for a discount on Thursday, but for now let’s get to the entry details:

  • PRIZE: A green prize pack as described above from Green Nest.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “GREEN ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …let’s use this a chance to share some eco-friendly tips. Have you started taking any extra steps to be green lately? Or do you have an especially easy tip to share with everyone? Or, as we witnessed in Ithaca, have you seen any especially green locations recently?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 22nd at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The Lower 48 United States
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from Green Nest.

The university where I work has a “center for sustainability” and they focus on how our campus can be more eco-friendly. They use a trash service that sorts the waste, 78% of which is recycled and diverted from land fills.

Green Me! We do paperless billing, we don’t own a car and walk/public transport everywhere, we are gradually replacing all our cleaning supplies with organics or naturals, and strive to buy as much local and/or organic produce as possible. Of course, reusable bags at the grocery store and forgoing bags when it’s possible to carry just a couple items home in a purse or gym bag :) baby steps!
I recently started draining my tofu (i’m vegetarian) on absorbent dish towels instead of tonsandtons of papertowels.

GREEN ME for my home is in need of good quality items that are eco friendly! My best tip, is to take a bucket with you when you shower and fill up the bucket with the water used for your shower before it gets warm. You can use this water to feed your plants.

Green me! I would love a rug for our soon-to-be nursery!

Lately, we’ve invested in sturdy tupperware and have stopped using ziplock bags for lunches and storage. Lots of small steps like canvas grocery bags and only food with minimal or recyclable packaging, until I can find a job with a closer commute–we try to make up for the big car footprint in lots of little ways.

Loooove your blog!! One green practice I love is sharing “hand-me-downs” when my 6 year old twins are done with their clothes, toys, boots etc (or I’m done with my stuff…). I equally love when I am the recipient of “hand-me-downs”. Someimes my husband goes to throw that good stuff out and I say, “Whoa!!! Someone could use that!”

Reuseable grocery bags were so easy to switch to–I just had to remember to bring them into the store with me. They hold SO much more than plastic or paper bags, and the handles don’t HURT your hands when you’re lugging a bunch of them into the house. Another simple green switch over was using Contigo water bottles instead of single-use water bottles. I’ve got my whole extended family using them, too.
