Fab Freebie: I Dream Of Greenie

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

This week’s prize is doubly exciting for us: it’s 100% eco-friendly and comes from a local Virginia business (just up the road from Richmond in Culpeper, VA). Green Nest‘s got such a broad smorgasbord of kind-to-the-earth gifts that we’re psyched that this week’s winner will score such stylish loot. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get to it.

First off, the winner gets their choice of any 3 x 5 or 4 x 6 Fab Habitat recycled rug (woven from recycled polypropylene straws). Here’s a sampling of some of 50+ designs you get to pick from.

Green Nest Rugs

Then there’s a soy candle that comes in a decorative silk-screen glass. There are 19 designs to choose from and after the 90 hours of candle burning time you can reuse the glass (and even drink out of it).

Green Nest Skeem Candles

But you won’t necessarily need that glass for drinking because the prize pack includes your choice of recycled soda/beer bottle tumbler set (you know I’m jealous of whoever wins this one since I failed miserably at my own DIY attempt). There are four in a set and 5 styles to choose from.

Green Nest Bottles

Last but not least, a green prize pack wouldn’t be complete without a little greenery. The winner can choose two of these Garden-in-a-Bag kits for growing some herbs without even having to get your hands dirty.

Green Nest Garden In A Bag

So that’s the prize. Stay tuned for a discount on Thursday, but for now let’s get to the entry details:

  • PRIZE: A green prize pack as described above from Green Nest.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “GREEN ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …let’s use this a chance to share some eco-friendly tips. Have you started taking any extra steps to be green lately? Or do you have an especially easy tip to share with everyone? Or, as we witnessed in Ithaca, have you seen any especially green locations recently?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 22nd at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The Lower 48 United States
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from Green Nest.

We have encouraged a small army of toads in our garden! We even used old pots for little “toad huts”. Now all the bad bugs and slugs are gone, left with happy toads on patrol!

GREEN ME! To be more green a few year ago I went and bought five or six fun fabrics and made napkins. They are wonderful and we’ve been using them for almost four years now. Now it feels so wasteful when I have to use a paper napkin at a restaurant.

we unplug all appliances when not in use, including the microwave. We hang dry all our clothes, unless its raining outside and we really need clothes, then we use the dryer. but that was only 2 times this entire summer. And we grow lots of veggies, fruits and herbs in our garden.

I use a cute Sanrio lunch bag to hold all of my folded cloth shopping bags. It keeps them neat, is easy to grab and take, fits in the front section of nearly all shopping carts, and because it holds 5 bags, I don’t worry about not having enough for all my shopping if I go off the shopping list.

We have been recycling pretty hard core lately, we are a family of 4 and we used to have 2 trash cans of trash every week, and we are down to only almost one :) all it took was a little hard work and a LOT of nagging the husband!

What a great prize! I have been recycling for a very long time. It kills me when I see people tossing cans and plastic bottles in the trash. It is so easy to recycle these days. I started collecting the bottle caps at work to keep them out of the land fill. Aveda recycles them. (A coworker is collecting the cans and bottles.) I have replaced my appliances when the time came to do so with energy efficient ones. I also drive a hybrid car.

GREEN ME! I ride my bike where ever I can when I can tolerate the weather. I admit to being a warm-weather rider, but I’ve surprised myself this year by riding a few days in far-less-than-ideal conditions. It makes me feel good about what I’m doing for my health and the environment!

We started composting this year and it’s amazing how much our household waste (and use of plastic trash bags) has been cut down! I’ve just started to use it with my fall plantings and can’t wait to see how happy my garden will be – double bonus!

I’ve recently traded my 3-roll-a-week paper towel habit for cloth rags. Saves some trees AND saves us a ton of money, too!
