Fab Freebie: I Dream Of Greenie

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

This week’s prize is doubly exciting for us: it’s 100% eco-friendly and comes from a local Virginia business (just up the road from Richmond in Culpeper, VA). Green Nest‘s got such a broad smorgasbord of kind-to-the-earth gifts that we’re psyched that this week’s winner will score such stylish loot. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get to it.

First off, the winner gets their choice of any 3 x 5 or 4 x 6 Fab Habitat recycled rug (woven from recycled polypropylene straws). Here’s a sampling of some of 50+ designs you get to pick from.

Green Nest Rugs

Then there’s a soy candle that comes in a decorative silk-screen glass. There are 19 designs to choose from and after the 90 hours of candle burning time you can reuse the glass (and even drink out of it).

Green Nest Skeem Candles

But you won’t necessarily need that glass for drinking because the prize pack includes your choice of recycled soda/beer bottle tumbler set (you know I’m jealous of whoever wins this one since I failed miserably at my own DIY attempt). There are four in a set and 5 styles to choose from.

Green Nest Bottles

Last but not least, a green prize pack wouldn’t be complete without a little greenery. The winner can choose two of these Garden-in-a-Bag kits for growing some herbs without even having to get your hands dirty.

Green Nest Garden In A Bag

So that’s the prize. Stay tuned for a discount on Thursday, but for now let’s get to the entry details:

  • PRIZE: A green prize pack as described above from Green Nest.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “GREEN ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …let’s use this a chance to share some eco-friendly tips. Have you started taking any extra steps to be green lately? Or do you have an especially easy tip to share with everyone? Or, as we witnessed in Ithaca, have you seen any especially green locations recently?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 22nd at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The Lower 48 United States
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from Green Nest.

    GREEN ME!

My husband and I were just tuned in to a show that was teaching the viewer how to set the toilet so that if flushing for liquids, it would only empty 1/3 of the way, and if flushing for solids, a bit more. A great way to create a green DIY project! Can’t remember the show…..

Green Me! The biggest green change in our lives has been forming a new habit of patience and checking out used or thrift stores for things we need around the house. We make a list of “wants” and reevaluate it from time to time. Sometimes we find exactly what we want second hand (and it’s cheaper!) but we have to be patient. Sometimes we end up figuring out we can live without.

    GREEN ME!
I recycle EVERYTHING! More often than not, I have more recycling than regular trash. We find we’re only putting out trash once a week instead of twice. Every little bit helps.
    Thanks for the giveaway.

“GREEN ME” My husband and I have recently started making all of our cleaning products and have an awesome recipe for laundry detergent that we just love. Ever since having our son, 20 months ago, it seems we try more and more to go as green as we can.

I just bought fabric fruit/veggie bags. I thought it seemed silly to bring my tote bags to the store but still put the produce in plastic. Though I initially got some strange looks at the store (from the check out clerks), the bags work great!

“Green Me!” I know it is elementary, but I have been doing a lot better about bringing my own reusable bags to the grocery or convenient store. Or, if it is small enough, I just throw whatever I bought into my purse- no bag necessary!

    GREEN ME! :)

My latest green solution isn’t all that innovative, but it was definitely something I never thought I would be able to incorporate into our crazy lives, never mind enjoy thoroughly. I’ve started hanging our laundry out to dry, and I absolutely love it. I enjoy hanging it, I enjoy taking it down, I even enjoy ironing it (I’ve always hated ironing) – and I LOVE the way it smells. Fabulous.

GREEN ME! I work at a coffee shop that cannot recycle through the city since they don’t have a pickup near us, so the owners just decided not to recycle. I started collecting things to recycle and taking them to bins myself and now I’ve got a team of my employees helping me out by taking things, too : ) gallons of milk add up so quickly!

How fun! Please GREEN ME! Pretty please!

I’m encouraging my office to recycle. I do all of the leg work; they just have to put the white paper in the bin that is conveniently located by the copier. It shocks me how much paper one small office goes through — it makes me sad to think of all the offices that don’t recycle. One small step at a time….

Green Me! I’m a new reader of this blog and completely love it. I’m not the best of being green but I do try to avoid plastic bags whenever possible, using reusable grocery bags and declining to have my food put in a bag if I can just carry it when I order lunch at the deli close to work, or just putting small items in my bag when I go to the pharmacy. It seems so silly to me to use something that will be in the world forever just to carry something for five minutes that I could have just held in my hand.
