Fab Freebie: I Dream Of Greenie

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

This week’s prize is doubly exciting for us: it’s 100% eco-friendly and comes from a local Virginia business (just up the road from Richmond in Culpeper, VA). Green Nest‘s got such a broad smorgasbord of kind-to-the-earth gifts that we’re psyched that this week’s winner will score such stylish loot. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get to it.

First off, the winner gets their choice of any 3 x 5 or 4 x 6 Fab Habitat recycled rug (woven from recycled polypropylene straws). Here’s a sampling of some of 50+ designs you get to pick from.

Green Nest Rugs

Then there’s a soy candle that comes in a decorative silk-screen glass. There are 19 designs to choose from and after the 90 hours of candle burning time you can reuse the glass (and even drink out of it).

Green Nest Skeem Candles

But you won’t necessarily need that glass for drinking because the prize pack includes your choice of recycled soda/beer bottle tumbler set (you know I’m jealous of whoever wins this one since I failed miserably at my own DIY attempt). There are four in a set and 5 styles to choose from.

Green Nest Bottles

Last but not least, a green prize pack wouldn’t be complete without a little greenery. The winner can choose two of these Garden-in-a-Bag kits for growing some herbs without even having to get your hands dirty.

Green Nest Garden In A Bag

So that’s the prize. Stay tuned for a discount on Thursday, but for now let’s get to the entry details:

  • PRIZE: A green prize pack as described above from Green Nest.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “GREEN ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …let’s use this a chance to share some eco-friendly tips. Have you started taking any extra steps to be green lately? Or do you have an especially easy tip to share with everyone? Or, as we witnessed in Ithaca, have you seen any especially green locations recently?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 22nd at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The Lower 48 United States
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from Green Nest.

GREEN ME! The most overlooked “green” choice IMO is to eat vegetarian meals more often than you eat meat meals. I try to cook with meat no more than twice a week. And, we are all about cloth diapers and napkins, and cleaning with vinegar and baking soda!

GREEN ME!! I have both cut the supply budget in my department at work and saved on paper by creating a station next to the shredder where we can drop off paper that’s clean on at least one side. We chop this up and re-use it as notepaper – simple but effective!

I live in a bitty little apartment (my first!) so green is also about keeping expenses down, flipping lights off like crazy using the natural light as best I can and bouncing it off the walls with mirrors. As for green places, I’m in the Northwest :) All green all the time, it’s beautiful :)

GREEN ME! We reuse any glass items that make their way into our apartment like spaghetti sauce jars or peanut butter jars. Jelly jars make cute juice glasses too. Recently I’ve also been experimenting with different DIY projects using recycled materials like my toilet paper/paper towel tube wall art. Sounds a bit strange but its really pretty!

GREEN ME! I carry a set of 5 EnviroSax reusable grocery bags in my car and one in my purse. And on the rare cases I don’t have one with me in a store, I save the paper bags I get and turn them inside out and use them to wrap presents. I like to top the presents with bows made from magazine pages (How About Orange style)

I like to reuse brown paper grocery bags when I make popcorn. I dump the freshly popped kernels in the bag, drizzle melted butter on top, and sprinkle with salt. Then I shake the bag to evenly distribute the yummy toppings before pouring the popcorn into a bowl and munching on my treat.

Green ME! We have been choosing some green materials for our kitchen reno such as marmoleum flooring and quartz counter tops which are all local to us. We make our own laundry soap, use green cleaning supplies and our new toilet saved us 3k gallons in one quarter (not typical unless you are replacing a 1950s toilet lol)

GREEN ME! What an amazing prize! I try to green it up any way possible: reusable grocery bags, using any plastic bags for lunch bags for work or poop bags for puppies (different ones for each respective purpose, otherwise that would be ick :)), I get most of my bills virtually and some of the publications I subscribe to virtual only. I have also been trying to buy more used furniture that I can have fun repurposing rather than buying everything new.
