Fab Freebie: I Dream Of Greenie

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

This week’s prize is doubly exciting for us: it’s 100% eco-friendly and comes from a local Virginia business (just up the road from Richmond in Culpeper, VA). Green Nest‘s got such a broad smorgasbord of kind-to-the-earth gifts that we’re psyched that this week’s winner will score such stylish loot. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get to it.

First off, the winner gets their choice of any 3 x 5 or 4 x 6 Fab Habitat recycled rug (woven from recycled polypropylene straws). Here’s a sampling of some of 50+ designs you get to pick from.

Green Nest Rugs

Then there’s a soy candle that comes in a decorative silk-screen glass. There are 19 designs to choose from and after the 90 hours of candle burning time you can reuse the glass (and even drink out of it).

Green Nest Skeem Candles

But you won’t necessarily need that glass for drinking because the prize pack includes your choice of recycled soda/beer bottle tumbler set (you know I’m jealous of whoever wins this one since I failed miserably at my own DIY attempt). There are four in a set and 5 styles to choose from.

Green Nest Bottles

Last but not least, a green prize pack wouldn’t be complete without a little greenery. The winner can choose two of these Garden-in-a-Bag kits for growing some herbs without even having to get your hands dirty.

Green Nest Garden In A Bag

So that’s the prize. Stay tuned for a discount on Thursday, but for now let’s get to the entry details:

  • PRIZE: A green prize pack as described above from Green Nest.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “GREEN ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …let’s use this a chance to share some eco-friendly tips. Have you started taking any extra steps to be green lately? Or do you have an especially easy tip to share with everyone? Or, as we witnessed in Ithaca, have you seen any especially green locations recently?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 22nd at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The Lower 48 United States
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from Green Nest.

There’s a bar in Greenwich Village called GustOrganics that is apparently the world’s first USDA-certified organic bar. They use organic liquor and other ingredients, even their waiters wear organic cotton uniforms!

    Green ME, Please!

We are down to one bag of trash per week. Everything else is either recycled or composted. We also have a rain barrel, and keep a bucket in the shower to catch excess water while we wait for the water to warm and then use it to hydrate our plants. Thanks for the great give away!

I’ve been working really hard to reduce the amount of trash that goes out to the street at the end of the week and increasing the amount of recyclables that go out. I pay closer attention to the presence of recyclable labels on containers. For example, I drink a lot of iced coffee (America…or at least New England…runs on Dunkin!) and always threw the plastic cup in the trash. Did you know those cups are recyclable?! Me neither!

GREEN ME! I have been trying to be more ecofriendly at work- keeping a stack of paper with only one side of printing on it so that I can print again on the other side, using only reusable silverware and plates at work, etc. Trying to do the little things feels so good! Every little bit counts.

This may sound funny, but I recently became Green after introducing my daughter to Barney’s Rain forest Video. After watching it and the messages it gives to the children, it made me realize that protecting our environment is the best thing that we can do for our children and their future. So recycling is really big in our family and reusing glass bottles for storage! We reuse all that we can!

GREEN ME! My tip would be just to start small! Try to switch one thing in your life per month over to a more eco-friendly option. One month try out recycling, then next month organic milk, or eco-friendly cleaning products, or seek out a greener dry cleaners, or switch out your lightbulbs. Keep it small and you are more likely to be able to maintain that change – and over the course of a year you will have made some great lifestyle changes!

While Louisiana may not be the greenest state at all, our city does have a FANTASTIC recycling program. We’ve always recycled but now have a can the size of a trashcan just for recycling! We also carry bags in our car to use for groceries and try to get as much produce from a local organic farm in the area! We’re also working on starting our own organic garden. With a little one on the way due in January we want to be as green as possible!
