Fab Freebie: Ideas For Ikea

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

Random.org has selected the two random folks who are about to get $100 to IKEA. And they are… Jennifer (who improves lives by teaching and will also be adopting a child from Ethiopia) and Ashley (who says needs some improvement for herself). Congrats!

If you take one thing away from this post, it should be this: two people are winning $100 gift cards to IKEA this week. Woot! But if you have room for a second thing, know that it’s because Ikea is hosting their second annual Life Improvement Project that, among other things (like hilariously helpful “instructions” for living a better life) includes another $100,000 Life Improvement Sabbatical Contest. So if you’ve got a great idea about how to help others, IKEA will give you one year and one hundred grand to make it happen. Last year’s winner (whose video can be seen here) was actually from right here in Virginia. Double woot!

Ikea Improvement Quiz

  • PRIZE: An $100 gift card to IKEA, courtesy of the IKEA Life Improvement Project
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IMPROVE ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …how you’d like to improve the lives of others. Do you have a special skill or talent that you could leverage? Or is there a specific cause or area of need that you’d like to dedicate yourself too?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, October 12 at 8pm EST (or at 10,000 entries)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The continental 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of IKEA Life Improvement Project

Improve me…I would love to design a “workplace ready” course. I work with a lower social economic group of folks and while they have the actual skills to get the job, they are socially not in the know. I’d like a course to teach them how to BE in their new job.

IMPROVE ME! It might sound kinda corny, but I want to help improve the lives of others by starting in my own home–raising really good, productive, and outward-focused kids who will each be agents of positive change in the world.

IMPROVE ME! I’d like to help young children learn simple techniques to “de-stress” themselves–the world they’re growing up in is so fast-paced and stressful, they will need to become adept at calming their minds and their bodies.

I’m training to be an Occupational Therapist (as my second career). I’ll be done with my 2-year Masters program in December 2012 and am looking forward to working with families of children who have disabilities. I found your blog during our summer break between classes and I LOVE it! A friend suggested I check it out. She said you guys reminded her of me…and I agree!!! Your style is very similar to mine and I’ve always been a DIY-er. Thanks for doing what you do!

I have been thinking about volunteering with the Ronald McDonald House program and cook a meal for one or more of the families.

I might also pass the contest info on to my Brother who started a community outreach program centered around medical students educating their communities about common ailments and help with screening.

    Improve Me!

I work at a nonprofit that provides mental health services for young children. Every time I answer the phone, I take the time to listen to people and hear their stories. It’s so hard to ask for help and you feel especially vulnerable when you are asking on behalf of your child. Listening may not be a special skill, but sometimes it helps just to feel heard.

IMPROVE ME! I am currently a returning student in the process of getting my teaching certificate for secondary education in the area of social studies. I think being a teacher is one of the most important ways to help people. And social studies is a hugely important and vastly overlooked content area, in my biased opinion. :)
