Fab Freebie: Ideas For Ikea

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

Random.org has selected the two random folks who are about to get $100 to IKEA. And they are… Jennifer (who improves lives by teaching and will also be adopting a child from Ethiopia) and Ashley (who says needs some improvement for herself). Congrats!

If you take one thing away from this post, it should be this: two people are winning $100 gift cards to IKEA this week. Woot! But if you have room for a second thing, know that it’s because Ikea is hosting their second annual Life Improvement Project that, among other things (like hilariously helpful “instructions” for living a better life) includes another $100,000 Life Improvement Sabbatical Contest. So if you’ve got a great idea about how to help others, IKEA will give you one year and one hundred grand to make it happen. Last year’s winner (whose video can be seen here) was actually from right here in Virginia. Double woot!

Ikea Improvement Quiz

  • PRIZE: An $100 gift card to IKEA, courtesy of the IKEA Life Improvement Project
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IMPROVE ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …how you’d like to improve the lives of others. Do you have a special skill or talent that you could leverage? Or is there a specific cause or area of need that you’d like to dedicate yourself too?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, October 12 at 8pm EST (or at 10,000 entries)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The continental 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of IKEA Life Improvement Project

    IMPROVE ME.

We’ve got a local crisis nursery that temporarily takes in children when families are dealing with emergency situations where their children could be in physical danger. Our community is very much a part of helping, but they always seem to need more. Probably because their services are constantly being needed. {sad} I would love to be able to help outfit them with all the furniture, toys, staffing they need. What a legacy they are leaving.

    IMPROVE ME!

Being blonde and of Swedish descent (yea, Ikea!) I didn’t know prejudice based on appearance until I visited a family in Malta and the baby was petrified of me because he had never seen a blonde before. My cause is immigration reform because no one should be afraid because of his/her ethnic appearance.

There are so many bigger things I wish I could do but in the meantime I think just giving of yourself when you can and doing little things on a regular basis (even as small as holding a door open for someone or being there for a friend or family member) can help make life a little better.

I’m a firm believer in the ability to change another person’s life with a simple smile and hello (so I love that Ikea affirmation graphic), but my main cause is furthering the awareness of The Pink Fund charity organization (it works to help pay expenses of those going through cancer treatments) and any breast cancer charities.

There are 142 million orphans in the world. My husband and I are adopting one of them from Ethiopia. We hope to adopt more. But if we’re talking improvement, even one less child who grows up without a permanent, loving family is an improvement, don’t you think?

I have scoliosis, but because I can afford to go to the chiropractor and yoga, it’s easily taken care of. However, not everybody is so lucky, especially people in underdeveloped countries. I’d like to help the folks who are less fortunate and have to go around in constant pain.

I think there are a lot of people out there who need financial guidance, but don’t need a financial advisor. I’m an accountant and have helped quite a few friends/family to set up budgets and goals to improve their financial position – just for the fun of it (for me :) ). A lot of people get scared when they look at numbers, but I love it! I would love to do this more often, it feels great to get someone back on their feet.
