Fab Freebie: Ideas For Ikea

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

Random.org has selected the two random folks who are about to get $100 to IKEA. And they are… Jennifer (who improves lives by teaching and will also be adopting a child from Ethiopia) and Ashley (who says needs some improvement for herself). Congrats!

If you take one thing away from this post, it should be this: two people are winning $100 gift cards to IKEA this week. Woot! But if you have room for a second thing, know that it’s because Ikea is hosting their second annual Life Improvement Project that, among other things (like hilariously helpful “instructions” for living a better life) includes another $100,000 Life Improvement Sabbatical Contest. So if you’ve got a great idea about how to help others, IKEA will give you one year and one hundred grand to make it happen. Last year’s winner (whose video can be seen here) was actually from right here in Virginia. Double woot!

Ikea Improvement Quiz

  • PRIZE: An $100 gift card to IKEA, courtesy of the IKEA Life Improvement Project
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IMPROVE ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …how you’d like to improve the lives of others. Do you have a special skill or talent that you could leverage? Or is there a specific cause or area of need that you’d like to dedicate yourself too?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, October 12 at 8pm EST (or at 10,000 entries)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The continental 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of IKEA Life Improvement Project

I volunteer for an organization called Local Matter (local-matters.org) that helps make local and sustainable food accessible to the people of central Ohio (specifically Columbus).

I want to continue to help educate the people of central Ohio on the importance of eating healthy, local food.

I would love to start a non-profit doing something I already have the skill-set for. Unfortunately, I am the worst person to narrow things down, but brainstorming is always evolving. The Krochet Kids commercials (non-profit with the mission: To empower people to rise above poverty) are very inspiring.

IMPROVE ME! I absolutely love to clean and I feel like I can approach life with a better attitude when my home is organized and somewhat clean. I would love to start a business and clean for free for people who are struggling in life. Single parents, people with multiple jobs, lots of kids, sickness, etc. I think that the difficulties in life are easier to face, and people are more hopeful, feel more confident, and less like they are struggling, when they can find what they’re looking for in their own house, and have a good clean place to call home.

IMPROVE ME! Because I need a new dining room table!

I’ve recently started teaching dance to kids, and while I do get paid (a little) for it, I love seeing how excited the kids are every week. Except for the one kid who doesn’t listen, but that’s a different story :) I also bought a can of cat food to donate to PetCo’s drive yesterday. I can’t resist those kitten faces.

Improve me! I would like to give free makeovers to cancer patients. So many chemo patients miss important life events like anniversaries, birthday parties, weddings and reunions becuase they aren’t comfortable going out in public looking “sick.” Give them a fabulous outfit, some makeup, a wig if needed and make them feel good about themselves so that cancer doesn’t take anything else away from them than it already has.

I am normally a very quiet person. Last year I was able to get an awesome job working at a mortgage company and am still here today… I try to make it a point to go out of my way to say hello to everyone I work with(HUGE OFFICE) and see if anyone needs help with anything. It not only lets everyone know I am here to work(good for keeping my job) but that I am friendly and trustworthy.

I am still working on improving MYSELF with my effort to lose 135 lbs (123 gone so far!). As part of improving myself I started blogging & that has given me an outlet to help other people reach their weight loss goals as well. I thought I was just going to be purging my demons, but it has turned into a way for me to share what I know & keep me & others accountable. Who knew? :)

I would like to help migrant farm families with educational opportunities for their children. Some children start working the fields as early as age 7, and I think all children should have the opportunity to get an education so they have a choice.

I recently took a new job at a non-profit working on a Quality Improvement program for hospitals to improve the treatment of patients with fragility fractures and osteoporosis. I took a pay cut to do it, but nothing beats doing something every day where you feel like you’re making a real difference!!

I would like to build up the courage to be a “Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep” photographer (http://www.nilmdts.org). One day. The organization was there to photograph us with our daughter, Maggie, just minutes after she was stillborn. Maggie came in the wee hours of the morning, and the photographer made the trip (an hour away) to capture our only moments with our daughter–all free of charge. I’m not there yet, but I hope to be able to do for someone else the priceless, cherished service that was done for us.
