Random.org has selected the two random folks who are about to get $100 to IKEA. And they are… Jennifer (who improves lives by teaching and will also be adopting a child from Ethiopia) and Ashley (who says needs some improvement for herself). Congrats!
If you take one thing away from this post, it should be this: two people are winning $100 gift cards to IKEA this week. Woot! But if you have room for a second thing, know that it’s because Ikea is hosting their second annual Life Improvement Project that, among other things (like hilariously helpful “instructions” for living a better life) includes another $100,000 Life Improvement Sabbatical Contest. So if you’ve got a great idea about how to help others, IKEA will give you one year and one hundred grand to make it happen. Last year’s winner (whose video can be seen here) was actually from right here in Virginia. Double woot!
- PRIZE: An $100 gift card to IKEA, courtesy of the IKEA Life Improvement Project
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IMPROVE ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: …how you’d like to improve the lives of others. Do you have a special skill or talent that you could leverage? Or is there a specific cause or area of need that you’d like to dedicate yourself too?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, October 12 at 8pm EST (or at 10,000 entries)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
- PRIZE SHIPS: The continental 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of IKEA Life Improvement Project

i’m a social worker. i’m fortunate to get paid to help others. but one thing i really love to create (or revamp) a program aimed at teaching teenagers how to communicate and be in relationships. any kind. with their bosses, with their parents, with their significant others. i’d also throw in a health dose of learning how to be one’s own person before defining youself by your relationship.

Improve ME! To make sure this gift kept on giving, far beyond IKEA’s generous $100,000, I would like to set people up who would receive clothing donations to help others dress for a job interview and tips on how to interview for a job. Sometimes all it takes is a bicycle so that they have transportation to get to a job each day. Rather than a hand out, give them a help out.

Something really important to me is good food and access to fresh produce. Working with gardens and getting that produce into schools, like the cafeteria of the one I work at! We actually started a garden project with 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders, and hopefully when veggies come up we will be able to make salads and even something simple like pizza with them :)

IMPROVE ME!
I get to educate people everyday about eating healthy, whole foods and how what’s on your dinner plate can change the world.
My if-I-won-the-lottery dream has always been to buy old houses, fix them up and bring them back to their former glory, and then turn them into low-rent abodes for artists and writers. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to give them the opportunity to make the world more beautiful through their work without having to worry about how they’re going to pay for the roof over their heads?

I volunteer once or twice a month for Habitat for Humanity. It is just so much fun and an organization that I feel SO good about! I seriously could not say enough good things about them. For example, they not only build houses, but the chapter near me did a couple blocks of row homes and actually is building a community garden so people who can’t afford a car to drive to the grocery store (or a bus) can walk right to their community garden for fresh produce to feed their families. They also work on helping these families get out of debt before they get a house. Like I said, I couldn’t say enough good things about them!

Improve Me!!! I’m a first grade teacher, so I hope to improve lives in the obvious ways, like teaching children to read, and in the just-as-important more subtle ways, like teaching children to love animals. :)
