It’s a shame we can’t take any major road trips right now (thanks to our wee one) since this week’s giveaway has us itching to head north to Kennebunkport, Maine. That’s because Spaces Kennebunkport– the shop behind today’s prize- embodies just the type of comfortable seaside home accents that Sherry and I love. Never mind that we can barely spell the name… we still want to eat up everything in their store. Have no fear if you also can’t make it out to K-town. Spaces Kennebunkport has an awesome

Maine Me! I grew up in the country outside Newville, a teeny tiny town. Newville isn’t weird, I admit it, but when you drive into the town, there is a historic marker that tells you “Welcome to Newville, Meaning New Village”–just in case you couldn’t figure that out on your own. Plus less than 10 miles down the road is an even smaller town called Newburg. Not so original in these parts–SO that’s funny to me!

I grew up in Paradise, California. I never thought it was odd until I went to college and started telling people I was from paradise. Now they are so pleased to meet anyone else from there so that they can be assured it is a real place.

I already entered earlier today, so I hope this doesn’t screw up the entries. I just found this list of cities in Texas with funny names and thought I’d share it with you all. There were some pretty silly city names on the list! http://frecklescassie.wordpress.com/2008/01/11/weird-names-for-texas-towns/

um, not too many interesting town names that i have lived in, but i suppose Tiskilwa, IL may be the most interesting. The local story is that there were two Native American’s one named Tis the other named Wa and well, Tis – Killed – Wa on the site of the town, Tiskilwa. Probably completely not true, but yeah.

Since we’re on the topic of Maine (and I grew up in Limerick, Maine, and had all summer jobs in Kennebunkport) there are a handful of towns named for other places in the world, such as:
China, Maine
Denmark, Maine
Paris, Maine
Mexico, Maine
Poland, Maine
Norway, Maine
Peru, Maine
Naples, Maine
Sweden, Maine
and they are all within a close proximity (for Maine standards that is!).

I actually grew up in a small country town in North Carolina named BUSHY FORK.
I assume it was referring to a fork in the road that had a lot of foilage. But I always liked the image of a large broccolli floret stuck on a ginormous stainless steel fork.
