Fab Freebie: Save Room For Cake

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Our lucky winner this week is… N Shirley (whose favorite dessert “to both make and eat is Virginia Apple Pudding – even makes the whole house smell good!”) Sounds delicious. Congrats!

We’ve had a few questions about why all contests aren’t open to international readers, so here’s that info for you. We actually ask every single vendor who approaches us to do a giveaway if they’ll ship internationally and we remind them that the more folks are included, the more exciting it is for everyone. We LOVE you all and always want to open our giveaways to as many people as possible! It unfortunately comes down to each company’s policy (some folks are set up to deal with customs/shipping internationally while some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – even if it’s just a book or a gift card). Sadly, we can’t change companies policies, and if we held out for international prizes and rejected everything else, we could no longer host weekly giveaways – which we’ve done for years. Hope that makes sense! We’ll continue to do our best to include as many of you guys as we can (we’re so glad this cookbook is open to Canadians too!).

With Thanksgiving just days away, think of this week’s giveaway as a warm up to all of the delicious food you’ll be stuffing your face with come Thursday. The mother-daughter team behind Philly’s Brown Betty Dessert Boutique is celebrating their new cookbook, The Brown Betty Cookbook, by giving away a copy along with $100 towards Terrain, whose wares appears on the cookbook’s pages. So if you’re like us and drool equally over amazing desserts and stylish kitchenware, you’re in luck. Seriously. I think I got a sugar high just by looking at some of the pictures.

    CAKE ME! This giveaway is so up my alley. Picking a favorite sweet is like picking a favorite child. Love a warm, fudgy brownie…or a slab of caramel cake. Drool.

    I love to bake. Especially cakes. They’re more complicated than most anything else. I like to eat them too, but mostly I just like to bake them.

    cake me! my all time favorite baked desert is the Cherry Berries on a Cloud recipe from, i think?, the old Better Homes & Gardens cookbook. I’m going to be 37 and my mom still makes it for me every year :)

    CAKE ME! I make a mean Italian Raspberry Torte. It is not only beautiful to look at, it is delicious. Kind of a cross between cake and cheesecake, topped with fresh raspberries. Always requested by friends and family!

    CAKE ME! How am I supposed to choose just one baked dessert?! Although, recently I have discovered I have a talent for making pretty good (or so I hear) homemade peach pie, so that’s been nice.

    Cake Me!!!! I love chocolate anything… Chocolate by itself, chocolate with vanilla, chocolate with berries, chocolate with cream… Chocolate anything!!!

    My all-time favorite is a chocolate stout cake. The beer brings out the nuttiness of the chocolate and it is covered in a whipped chocolate ganache. So good!

    My grandma’s recipe for a Chocolate angel food cake and vanilla icing from scratch (won the NY state fair, twice)! It is THE BEST :)

    CAKE ME! My most favorite cake has been in our family for years and lots of people probably make it. It’s an incredibly moist chocolate cake made with mayonnaise instead of eggs and oil. YUM!!! Let me know if you want the recipe.

    My favorite baked good are these shortbread-wrapped around chocolate-dipped in icing cookies that my mom made (and now I make) at Christmas-time!

    Favorite dessert is a little weird, but an olive oil chocolate mousse recipe that was published in the Nytimes back in 2007. It’s a passover-friendly recipe and it’s soooo decadent and chocolatey!
