Fab Freebie: Save Room For Cake

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Our lucky winner this week is… N Shirley (whose favorite dessert “to both make and eat is Virginia Apple Pudding – even makes the whole house smell good!”) Sounds delicious. Congrats!

We’ve had a few questions about why all contests aren’t open to international readers, so here’s that info for you. We actually ask every single vendor who approaches us to do a giveaway if they’ll ship internationally and we remind them that the more folks are included, the more exciting it is for everyone. We LOVE you all and always want to open our giveaways to as many people as possible! It unfortunately comes down to each company’s policy (some folks are set up to deal with customs/shipping internationally while some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – even if it’s just a book or a gift card). Sadly, we can’t change companies policies, and if we held out for international prizes and rejected everything else, we could no longer host weekly giveaways – which we’ve done for years. Hope that makes sense! We’ll continue to do our best to include as many of you guys as we can (we’re so glad this cookbook is open to Canadians too!).

With Thanksgiving just days away, think of this week’s giveaway as a warm up to all of the delicious food you’ll be stuffing your face with come Thursday. The mother-daughter team behind Philly’s Brown Betty Dessert Boutique is celebrating their new cookbook, The Brown Betty Cookbook, by giving away a copy along with $100 towards Terrain, whose wares appears on the cookbook’s pages. So if you’re like us and drool equally over amazing desserts and stylish kitchenware, you’re in luck. Seriously. I think I got a sugar high just by looking at some of the pictures.

    Honestly I’m a pie person all the way. Specifically apple pie with some sharp cheddar. Maybe not that much of a sweet sweets person but my husband sure is!

    It’s so difficult to choose just one since I love all baked goods that include chocolate. I guess I would say that Dream Bars are my all time favorite.

    I love a fabulous coconut cupcake from our local bakery, Sweet Cakes. I could eat 1 for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s a problem.

    Hmm…so many to love. For me it’s a tie between a local frozen custard joint’s Key Lime Pie Concrete (like a DQ flurry, but 100% better), and blackberry cobbler!

    CAKE ME!

    My husband is quite the baker so there are no complaints when it comes to dessert in our house (he even baked our wedding cake!) My favorite dessert however, is actually pie. I love a good cherry or blackberry but any fruit pie will do. I’m just glad that I have a creative baker in the house who expands my dessert horizons.

    CAKE ME! The one dessert I will remember and always crave is my mom’s mocha cake…mmmmmm… layers of light fluffy angle food cake filled and covered in delicious mocha frosting!

    CAKE ME! I’m obsessed with brownies. Any type of brownies – peanut butter brownies, blonde brownies, etc. I could eat an entire pan the moment its baked but unfortunately I must share with my husband because he also loves brownies. Perfect match :)

    CAKE ME! I’m pretty much a sucker for anything that’s popped in the over and contains flour, sugar, butter, and vanilla, but if I have to list just one: COOKIES! Simple as that. Though, it’s impossible for me to pick one cookie type. I love them all.

    And man, am I digging that jade cake stand…

    CAKE ME!

    I recently had a classic homemade hershey’s cake with homemade hershey’s icing. It was delicious! I was inspired to think “out of the box” and make my cakes from scratch from now on!

    CAKE ME! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE bite size chocolate brownies that melt in your mouth. They are best right after they come out of the oven with a tall glass of milk.

    Oh, tough question! It depends on the season, I guess, though pie is a fave. This time of year, pumpkin pie (with “real” whipped cream!) is king. Come summer, a solid strawberry rhubarb is incredible (with vanilla ice cream!) :-)

    My favorite all time dessert is my Grandma’s 4 Layer Chocolate Cake. She just shared the recipe with me, making me the only other family member who knows how to make it. Yum!!

    I love oatmeal scotchies – its the recipe right on the back of the butterscotch morsels… tastes like fall to me. :)

    I have a profound sweet tooth and am a sucker for all desserts, but my favs would have to be warm apple cobbler with vanilla ice cream, and any peanut-butter cookie/brownie/bar :)
