Fab Freebie: Save Room For Cake

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Our lucky winner this week is… N Shirley (whose favorite dessert “to both make and eat is Virginia Apple Pudding – even makes the whole house smell good!”) Sounds delicious. Congrats!

We’ve had a few questions about why all contests aren’t open to international readers, so here’s that info for you. We actually ask every single vendor who approaches us to do a giveaway if they’ll ship internationally and we remind them that the more folks are included, the more exciting it is for everyone. We LOVE you all and always want to open our giveaways to as many people as possible! It unfortunately comes down to each company’s policy (some folks are set up to deal with customs/shipping internationally while some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – even if it’s just a book or a gift card). Sadly, we can’t change companies policies, and if we held out for international prizes and rejected everything else, we could no longer host weekly giveaways – which we’ve done for years. Hope that makes sense! We’ll continue to do our best to include as many of you guys as we can (we’re so glad this cookbook is open to Canadians too!).

With Thanksgiving just days away, think of this week’s giveaway as a warm up to all of the delicious food you’ll be stuffing your face with come Thursday. The mother-daughter team behind Philly’s Brown Betty Dessert Boutique is celebrating their new cookbook, The Brown Betty Cookbook, by giving away a copy along with $100 towards Terrain, whose wares appears on the cookbook’s pages. So if you’re like us and drool equally over amazing desserts and stylish kitchenware, you’re in luck. Seriously. I think I got a sugar high just by looking at some of the pictures.

    I love salted caramel cheesecake. Really anything with a salty sweet I love, but salted caramel cheesecake is to.die.for.

    My favorite goodie is a recipe from my grandma, chocolate cake from scratch with cheesecake frosting and chocolate chips on top!

    CAKE ME!!!! I love, love, love cheesecake! I love that its appropriate for a slew of events, that no one else usually makes it, and that after hours of smelling it you can create something completely different every time. Yummy!!!

    CAKE ME!!! My all time favorite dessert is Julia Child’s Reina de Saba (Queen of Sheba) chocolate cake. It is heavenly and decadent and completely worth the calories. I’ll be making it for my husband for our first Thanksgiving together as a family, and he has no idea the treat that is in store for him!

    CAKE ME! I love all things sweet, but my favorite ever (cliche alert!) would have to be my wedding cake. My aunt makes the best chocolate cake in the world, and combined with my grandma’s raspberry filling…mmmmm! My husband’s groom’s cake was a carrot sheet cake, also made by my aunt, but no one actually got to eat any, as my aunt and uncle’s cat decided it was for him and helped himself to a piece right in the middle.

    I love, love, love quick breads with banana nut being a heavy favorite. This time of the year, however, pumpkin bread wins a close second.

    Cake me! Pie. Absolutely pie. I don’t really care for super sweet stuff, so a nice sweet/tart cherry or berry pie with flaky crust will always be my fave.

    CAKE ME!

    I absolutely LOVE (baking and eating) Irish Car Bomb cake [chocolate stout cake with Irish whiskey chocolate filling and Irish Cream cream cheese frosting]- it’s become a tradition for St. Patrick’s Day and birthdays…and if can have it for my wedding cake, I will :)!

    CAKE ME! I love most baked goods, but my favorite is probably nice and soft chocolate chip cookies or brownies. You don’t even have to bake them….just give me the dough/batter. :-)

    I used to think that it was a flourless chocolate cake, but after my latest trip, I had a chocolate soup with black pepper ice cream that was TO. DIE. FOR. I am dreaming of it–it was like a chocolate lava cake with just a tiny bit of cake and a whole lot of lava.

    CAKE ME! My favorite dessert is my grandma’s homemade apple pie. She has dementia, so she no longer bakes, but I have perfected her recipe!

    “CAKE ME!” My mother makes the best pecan pie using Grandma’s recipe. It was my birthday cake every year, which drove my brother and sister crazy considering we had just had it for Thanksgiving and Christmas (I’m a January baby)! Perhaps that was half the fun!

    I love pie. . .it is probably my favorite desert (it’s a toss up between apple, coconut creme, and chess) but I also LOVE traditional wedding cake (white cake with vanilla buttercream frosting) I rarely have it but it is always heavenly.

    I LURVEEEEE cookies!!! Mostly chocolate chip pudding cookies or red velvet pudding cookies (see chef in training blog). OMG! Sooooooo yummmmy!
