Fab Freebie: Sew Sweet

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

Thanks to random.org, these three ladies are getting a kick start to Mother’s Day: Traci (who inherited her mother’s worrying skills!), April (who got her mom’s love of shopping, travel and new things) and Stacy (who inherited the gift of being a good cook from her mom).

Because becoming a mom has mysteriously given Sherry the urge to learn how to sew (more on that here and here) we thought we’d use this pre-Mother’s Day giveaway to dish out TWO fabric-tastic prizes to THREE lucky winners. And they won’t have to sew a stitch because it has already been done for ’em. The first comes from City Chic Country Mouse, whose Etsy shop caters to those who want to inject a bit of chic to their chore list (not that any moms should be doing housework on Mother’s Day). Each of our three winners can choose from any of their colorful, graphic, and punchy ironing board covers, which will definitely cheer up any laundry room:

Ironing Boards

Plus those same three lucky winners get a double dose this week. A customized fabric wreath from a local Richmonder who puts her sewing prowess to work in her Etsy shop, Love Elaine is also on the agenda. While she’s got cool modern spins on aprons, quilts, and bags – her fabric wreaths are always a favorite. And yup, each winner gets to pick our their own colors.

LoveElaine Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Any ironing board cover from City Chic Country Mouse and a custom fabric wreath from Love Elaine
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us one quality you’re glad you inherited – or wish you had inherited – from your mother (or other parental type figure). Are you grateful she instilled strong family values? Or that she passed down her sense of style / fabulous cooking abilities? Or do you keep waiting for her sewing skills to kick in like Sherry?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, May 4th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Three
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States and Canada
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday morning for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just like rewarding our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from City Chic Country Mouse and Love Elaine.

    SEW ME!

While my mom failed to pass down her sewing skills to me, she did teach me how to cook, and both she and my grandmother taught me how to bake and how to clean. Like a madwoman.

I inherited my dad’s obsessive compulsive cleanliness. Some may consider this a burden, i.e., my husband. But I consider it heavenly.

I’m thankful my mom passed down her passion for crafts, specifically the crafting process. We’ve made a lot of failed projects, but she always taught me to try again and take joy in the learning process.

SEW ME! My grandmother taught me calligraphy at age…uh…7 or 8! Love that skill/talent, although admittedly we both had pretty rockin’ handwriting to begin with. Now, adorable ironing board, GET IN MA BELLY!

I inherited my mom’s love for mix and match style. When I moved into my new house and was ready tackle it all in one big sweep, she reminded me that “Decorating is a process and in the end you have a room that tells a story. It’s not a one stop shopping trip!” Wish I could have inherited her patience! :)

I wish I inherited my mom’s ability to sew awesomely!!! I have been wanting to her to teach me and hopefully we will get this chance soon! I want to learn so I can make cool things without “iron on tape for hem line stuff” all the time.
Secretly I think that stuff is the bomb!!:) Thanks for introducing it (that is iron on tape) to me guys!!

SEW ME! I inherited my mom’s spunk and boldness. She is never afraid to ask for what she wants, instead of waiting for it to be given to her. She doesn’t wait for permission. And because she is classy, she does all this by being assertive, NOT aggressive. Niceness gets things done too….

And, I am grateful that I inherited my father’s work-ethic; we have very differnt lives, but he instilled in me the value of working hard and completeing tasks from start to finish and to the best of my ability, which is a qaulity that I believe is universally positive no matter what path you choose to take with your life.

Wow, the two commenters right above me said what I was going to say! I wish I had my mother’s way with plants. She can make anything grow, while I can barely keep a philodendron alive. And while it took a lot time for it to kick in, I inherited my mother’s sense of order and cleanliness. I can organize anything in no time, and have fun doing it. Kind of sick, but what can I do?

I’m happy I inherited my mom’s manners. I could have never guessed how valuable all that incessant nagging would turn out to be!

I learned to sew in 7th grade home economics. Yet another seemingly annoying thing that would later turn out to be insanely useful. Go figure. :)

I’m loving these ironing board covers!

I’m so glad I inherited my mom’s love for decorating and making a house a home. I love when people tell me I have my “mother’s touch”. She really can pull a room together and make it a place where friends and family can gather and feel special, and in my three years of home ownership I’ve gotten similar comments (which makes me so proud!). :)
