Fab Freebie: Sew Sweet

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

Thanks to random.org, these three ladies are getting a kick start to Mother’s Day: Traci (who inherited her mother’s worrying skills!), April (who got her mom’s love of shopping, travel and new things) and Stacy (who inherited the gift of being a good cook from her mom).

Because becoming a mom has mysteriously given Sherry the urge to learn how to sew (more on that here and here) we thought we’d use this pre-Mother’s Day giveaway to dish out TWO fabric-tastic prizes to THREE lucky winners. And they won’t have to sew a stitch because it has already been done for ’em. The first comes from City Chic Country Mouse, whose Etsy shop caters to those who want to inject a bit of chic to their chore list (not that any moms should be doing housework on Mother’s Day). Each of our three winners can choose from any of their colorful, graphic, and punchy ironing board covers, which will definitely cheer up any laundry room:

Ironing Boards

Plus those same three lucky winners get a double dose this week. A customized fabric wreath from a local Richmonder who puts her sewing prowess to work in her Etsy shop, Love Elaine is also on the agenda. While she’s got cool modern spins on aprons, quilts, and bags – her fabric wreaths are always a favorite. And yup, each winner gets to pick our their own colors.

LoveElaine Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Any ironing board cover from City Chic Country Mouse and a custom fabric wreath from Love Elaine
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us one quality you’re glad you inherited – or wish you had inherited – from your mother (or other parental type figure). Are you grateful she instilled strong family values? Or that she passed down her sense of style / fabulous cooking abilities? Or do you keep waiting for her sewing skills to kick in like Sherry?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, May 4th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Three
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States and Canada
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday morning for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just like rewarding our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from City Chic Country Mouse and Love Elaine.

Besides the frequent, “oh, you look just like your mom” comments growing up…I actually am quite just like my mother in comparison to my two other sisters. I like a neat, clean home and I love to cook and bake! :) *I hope I win..it’s my birthday tomorrow!!*

I inherited (or was taught) my mother’s you can do it all attitude. She raised 6 children and worked full time. As I celebrate my first mothers day and try balance my new family with my career I am so grateful I had her a role model.

    Sew me!!! (Please!)

I wish I had inherited my mother’s joy in housekeeping. I’m getting there (slowly!), but it sure has taken a long time. I have a feeling a swank ironing board cover might help. Or, then again, it might not. My husband does most of the ironing (since they’re mostly his clothes, and he did his own before he knew me), and so a bold, fun, punchy cover might put him off.

I think it might be worth it. lol

My mother and grandmother instilled in us the joys of sewing, cooking and gardening (joys being a very loose term around the time that 4H projects were due). But most importantly made us cherish our education (formal or not) and to find the appreciation in everyone and everything.

There are lots of things I wish I’d inherited from my parents. My dad is an EXCELLENT cook and has tried to teach me various cooking techniques over the years, but I’m still learning and obviously can’t cook nearly as well as he can yet. My mom can sew really well – she made curtains for our house and a slipcover for her couch. I, unfortunately, can’t use a sewing machine at all. I can, however, knit and will learn how to crochet before the end of the year!

Admittedly, I only began to realize my mom was an actual person a few years ago. (I’m only 20, so I think this is normal.) I’m glad my mom instilled in me humility. Growing up, if an offhand comment was ever made about money, wealth, poverty, she’d always remind me that 7 of them lived in a trailer when she was a girl, as they could only afford the farm land but not the house.

I so wish I had my mom’s sewing skills. I commented on Sherry’s sewing post because it so closely resembles my sewing misadventures. My mom gas tried several times to teach me and I always end up messing it up or breaking the sewing machine, then my mom just finishes the project fir me.
I would love to win one of these prizes to include with her mother’s day gift. I did inherited her love of family and her other artistic talents, painting, crafting etc. Just not the sewing talent:(.

I wish I’d inherited my mom’s cooking skills – she’s a natural cook who just tosses whatever on the stove and it turns out yummy. I’m usually pretty recipe-reliant. I did manage to inherit her feisty-ness though.
