Fab Freebie: Sharing The Love

*** This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below! ***

Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!

As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!

Joss Main Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

When my sisters and I were little (ages 6,4.5 and infant) we shared a little bitty 8×5 (or something small like that) room. We moved out of the house and into another, but when I visit (it’s a house that our family still owns) I can’t believe my parents were able to fit bunk beds and a crib and a dresser in the little space.

In college, my husband (then boyfriend) and I couldn’t bear sleeping apart even though our apartments were located across the hall from each other and so we spent the better part of my senior year sharing a twin size bed (now that’s young love . . .). After months of sleeping on the same pillow, our roommates generously shared the coffee table from the living room with us, and a makeshift king size bed was formed by dragging his mattress across the hall and laying it on the table. Our makeshift bed required me to only use the top three drawers of my dresser, and to pull up a mattress instead of a chair to my desk, but it was so worth it. We’ve been married for 6 months now and are just beginning to furnish our first place together, and would very much appreciate a gift from you to help us get some chic new items (like maybe a real bedframe :-).

Growing up my sister and I shared a room. My brother was down the hall and my parents and grandmother were on the main floor. When my grandma passed away, my brother moved in to her room, I moved down the hall to my brother’s old room and my sister stayed put. We were glad to have our own rooms, but missed being together. We would yell down the hall to each other all the time and my mom would have to yell up the stairs to get us to stop talking and go to sleep. :)

The worst EVER was sharing a bathroom with my two siblings growing up. Shortly after we moved into the house my parents renovated their master bath (DIY-style, took forever!) and all five of us were sharing the one bathroom. Horrible. Now I don’t even share my bathroom with my fiance – he uses the guest bath. That’s one of the reasons I’m so excited to marry him!

Share me! My sister and I always fought over the front seat. My mom made us use a tally system for who’s turn it was, but we quickly learned we could cheat with that system. :) In the end we both had to sit in the back and mom chauffered us around.

My sister and I had to share everything. One day our parents offered up a can of soda for us to share. She said “You split, I pick”, as we always did. This time I said if I couldn’t have a whole soda, I didn’t want one at all! My sister got the whole soda.

Once while serving as a missionary in the heart of Mexico, my mother-in-law sent me 4 brand new blouses. They were the same style but different colors. I had a young lady cleaning my house the day the package arrived. I told her that I would like to share one with her. I proceeded to share how that my mother had taught me years ago to always give a portion away when someone gives you something. I used oranges as an example. If someone gives you a bag of oranges, take 2 or 3 and pass them on to someone else. That afternoon after taking this young lady home, I had to meet a friend at the mall. When we went to part ways, she ran to her car and pulled out a bag of oranges for me! I thought it was just too precious. You can never share enough!!!

Not to get all religious on you, but several years ago I worked at a company where I often had to cold call customers. It was easy to forget what I was saying and fall completely into the rut of routine. My spiel was mostly the same, and I would always end messages with “Again this is Suzanne with … I look forward to hearing from you”. One particular afternoon I completely lost track of what I was doing/who I was calling and ended my message with “Again this is Suzanne with… in Jesus name, Amen”.

    Awesome.

Share me! We have a three year old little boy and a three month old little boy. We’ve been talking a lot about sharing lately with the bigger boy. A few weeks ago, I walked into the living room and found the bigger boy standing in front of the baby in his swing. He was in the middle of unshelling a pistachio nut, and about to share it with his baby brother! Both funny and horrifying. I was glad I walked in the room when I did.

My mom and I are best friends. One time when I was home from college I was sleeping in her bed(parents were divorced). She use to sleep with 4-5 pillows b/c of back/neck pain. So she was practically sleeping sitting up! She had turned to her side in her sleep and was half way off the edge of her pillow, onto my face! We woke up nose to nose! Our eyes opened simultaneously and we laughed so hard we were crying! Favorite memory ever!

SHARE ME!- I have a relative that is a bit of an over-sharer. She is an aunt of my husband, who I met and began dating when I was 15. One of the first times I went on vacation with his family she sneezed at the table one night while we were playing board games. She immediately proceeded to share that at her age sneezing isn’t always that happens, and promptly left the room. …nice to meet you?

Share Me!!!! :-) I grew up sharing a bedroom with my sister…probably one of the best lessons my mom taught us. Two brothers also shared a room…& we all shared 1 bathroom! lol I think it taught us tons of patience & problem solving skills, not to mention how to forgive because we undoubtedly did disagree a lot in such close quarters. ;-)

Honestly I haven’t always been a good sharer. My husband used to make fun of me because I would NEVER share my food with anyone! Now that I have a 2 kids and I’m teaching them to share I realize how difficult it really is to hand over a toy or half of a cookie to your sibling or friend when you don’t want to. To this day I still hide in the kitchen and eat my food so that I don’t have to share it with all the sticky fingers of the house!
