Fab Freebie: Sharing The Love

*** This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below! ***

Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!

As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!

Joss Main Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

Tomorrow in good ol’ NJ, I will be collecting food and monetary donations at Bruce Springsteen’s concert (4/3/12)… $1 donated to the Community FoodBank of NJ can be turned into approx $10 of food for NJ’s hungry.

If you bring 5+ items of nonperishable foods (no glass please), you get entered into a raffle to get upgraded into the concert pit. Tell ’em Heidi sent you (or if you see me say HI, I’ll be the one wearing the customized deelyboppers… yup, I’m bringing sexy back)

    If that’s not a sharing story I don’t know what is :) http://www.njfoodbank.org/events/3758/springsteen-concerts-food-and-fundraisers

One of the most surreal “sharing” moments I have had would be while I was in Africa volunteering on a baboon sanctuary – CARE. Anyway we had one shower, it was an outdoor, stone enclosed shower and one evening as I was exiting the said shower, I was greeted by a grazing elephant…me in a towel and crocs, elephant eating dinner, less than 20 feet from each other. Not necessarily awkward, just CRAZY!

I had to share a bathroom with a much younger brother, who would sleep walk to the bathroom in the middle of the night and pee anywhere but the toilet. Needless to say, it wasn’t long before the bathroom became only his bathroom, even though it was attached to my bedroom!

when i was a kid my parents always had two of their three girls share a bed. the combo changed frequently with only one constant – i always had to share with one or the other. and both wet the bed until about 8 years old (incompetent bladders or something like that). at the time, i lacked any sort of compassion for them after waking up in warm puddles of not-my-pee for years…and FINALLY convinced my parents that the two pee-ers should share their pee with eachother and not with me. But all those years of pouting and complaining and general kid-cursing…they were torture. i hate being a middle kid. :)

I forgot my first kindergarten homework assignment and only lived a few blocks from school, though one street was a big 4 laner. Not only did I sneak out of the school to go back and get it, but crossed not at the crosswalk, because I was sure the crosswalk helper lady wouldn’t let me go the wrong way — away from school!

I made it fine though. My mom heard a doorbell, looked through the top window on the door and didn’t see anything, until she looked down…!

SHARE ME! I just moved cross country a year ago. I was trying to text a picture of my newly unpacked and organized closet to my mom, but instead sent it to my new friend/work colleague. I didn’t realize I did it for about a week. She thought I was just showing her how organized I was.

I once shared the bathroom at work with one of my bosses – she was in the stall next to me. This would be fine, except…she was wrapping Christmas presents in there! Ugh, hope her family washed their hands after they exchanged gifts! :)

Sharing a very small apartment with my husband has been… interesting, at times. He loves European soccer (football, to them). Most of their game times are somewhere around five or six in the morning here on the West coast of the US. I like to sleep in on the weekends, and he likes to yell at the TV… We’re still working on that one. :-)

My best friend and I discovered in High School that the bathroom in a Taco Bell had one room with two toilets. Like they forgot to install the stalls. We proceeded to laugh hysterically while we peed sitting next to each other (obviously something only girlfriends can appreciate). We had to share the toilet paper which was located on a roll between the two toilets!

Share me! When my younger sister and I hang out, we share pretty much every meal. It always goes something like,
“I’m thinking about getting Meal A or Meal B”
“Hey, I was thinking the same thing!”
    “Want to split both?”
    “Done.”

Man, everyone has excellent sharing stories.Me, not so much.

My husband is super-frugal… so we always split an entree when we eat out(have you seen entree portion sizes!? They are HUGE!). This can be a very difficult decision, especially when we each have 3 things we want to try. It’s always enough food, but sometimes it is tough!

SHARE ME! Last year we took a little trip to a local island for our anniversary. I hate, hate, HATE (and have an irrational fear of) vomit, and it just so happened that it was so windy that day, that for about half of the 1-hour return trip, everyone (it seemed like) on the boat was vomiting. Not a fun anniversary trip at all!

When I was heading off to college my closest highschool friends sat me down and had a sharing intervention. I was an only child and my sharing skills were…. lacking. They reminded me that if I wanted to make new friends I was going to have to stop FREAKING OUT anytime someone touched my stuff, food, etc. It worked, now I’m a great sharer and will not bite you if you want to try a fry.
