Fab Freebie: Sharing The Love

*** This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below! ***

Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!

As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!

Joss Main Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

My sister and I shared a bedroom most of young lives…literally until high school. However, around the time I was 8 and she was 7, my parents split the L-shaped room in “half” by putting a sheet up so we could each have our own spaces. Only problem, the door was on her half and, well, lets just say we had our disagreements. Many a day I used to climb through my closet and into my brother’s room to exit.

But my mother was right when she constantly insisted “You’ll appreciate each other when your older.” :)

Growing up in a family of six, with one bathroom and 3 bedrooms, I did my fair share of, …well, …sharing.

Share Me! My husband has sharing issues when it comes to sangria. If he pours a glass and I snag a drink, he gets genuinely upset! It cracks me up so of course I do it all of the time :). He is an amazing husband, so it is just a little bizarre how upset he gets.

SHARE ME! My brother and I were so horrible at sharing at bathroom (he was a slob and I had every tube of goop maketed to a female teen) that we actually broke out black electrical tape and made a line down the middle of the vanity that divided his space from mine. It was a two sink operation so that was even but we couldn’t stop competing on who got the sweeter end of the deal so we’d say things like, yea well I got the TOILET! Well, I got the DOOR– have fun with your stinking toilet because you’re not ever coming out! It went on and on. It is to this day such a memory that I can say “there is a line” and we both know what I mean!

Harrowing to us. We moved to a new city and the dog escaped. We were so worried that she might not consider our new city “home” so we searched and searched. Did I mention that it was night time and she’s a dark colored dog? We were so relieved to find her crossing the road in front of our house!

I’ll be honest, I find it harrowing to come up with a story to share so…how about I share someone else’s story?

So there I was, a young pilot, not long off my homeworld of Tatooine, having never ventured far from home. My world was in total flux. I found out I had some freaky space wizard powers and that some evil space samurai named Darth Vader killed my dad. This same dude was now going around blowing up planets for fun, or to make room for an intergalactic freeway, or because he had sand in his underpants, or something. Anyhoo, there I was, being told I had to take this little dinky fighter and help blow up this battlestation the size of a small moon. It was some scary jibber jabber, let me tell ya. If it weren’t for this crazy old dude named Obi Wan speaking to me from the grave, I would’ve cracked under pressure. Instead, I used the Force to violate the laws of physics and, with only two photon torpedos, somehow inexplicably caused a chain reaction that blew the whole thing up and saved the day…until they built another one.

SHARE ME! Your example of siblings sharing a bathroom made me cringe!! We had one bathroom for six people in my parents’ house. My three brothers and I were all within six years of one another, so the mornings during our middle/high school years were HORRIBLE!! Lots of fighting/groaning/complaining went on around that time. I’m surprised my parents survived!! =)

Having to share my private bathroom time with my two toddler sons running in and out is harrowing at best! I mean, can I just get five minutes?!?! And don’t tell me to lock the door…then they just bang on the door and yell “mama, are you okay?” at the top of their lungs!

A few years ago my boyfriend (now husband) and I went on a road trip with my family to North Carolina. On the way, we stopped at a motel my mom reserved for a night – it was hands down the nastiest motel you’ve ever seen. There were 7 of us sharing the room, and luckily I got to share a bed with my 2 sisters (so 3 of us in a full or queen bed), and my boyfriend shared THE FLOOR with my brother. Thank goodness they didn’t catch a disease. That motel is still talked about every time stories of a vacation come up.

Hmm, first thing that comes to mind is that I thought it’d be fun to share my bed with my sister the night before my wedding. She snored the entire night and I didn’t get one wink of sleep! I won’t let her forget it either.

When I was a kid, my brother and I shared a bedroom. I remember us getting mad at each other frequently and taping lines on the floor to divide “his side” from “my side” of the room! Luckily we have grown up to be great friends, regardless. :)

Share me! My sister and I shared a bedroom growing up. We are as different as night and day. She’s anal about keeping things neat and clean. I do not mind being ” a little” disorganized. One day coming home from play she warned me to stay away from her side of the room. Of course being the good sister that I am I plopped myself(muddy sneakers included) on her bed( with immaculately white sheets!) She was so mad at me she bit me on the hand! ouch! Thankfully we are fine nowt that we are older(much) and we can just laugh at those silly memories. :)

When I was in fourth and fifth grade, my family (two parents and three daughters) lived in a tiny two bedroom apartment. We still reminisce about the time we three girls spent in that small bedroom. My mom made it really cozy with a reading nook and a coloring station (like Clara’s!).

    Share me! …or not

I do my best to teach my kids to share, and they are good about it. One thing I try very hard to teach them NOT to share is germs. I feel as if the winter months are spent exclusively making sure that snot doesn’t get rubbed on each other, or sneezes and coughs are caught.

The only time I ever had to share a room on a business trip, my coworker took a sleeping pill at 7:30 pm. After that she was sound asleep and I stayed up late reading and listening to music. She never once moved or awoke until morning- it was a little strange but awesome at the same time!

When I was a kid I always shared a bedroom with my older sister. Of course I ALWAYS wanted a room of my own and constantly bugged my parents about letting me have a room of my own. So when we moved again at the age of six (we moved A LOT)and my mom finally gave in a let me have the third bedroom for myself. I slept in in two nights. Turns out, I couldn’t sleep without my sister. Hated it. So I ran back to my sister and our bunkbed as fast as my six-year-old legs could carry me. Just to say: sharing rules! And so do older sisters!
