Fab Freebie: Sharing The Love

*** This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below! ***

Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!

As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!

Joss Main Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

I once shared a hotel room with my boyfriend’s mother. Who slept topless because she thought it was too hot to sleep with a shirt on. Ahhh!!!!

Having spent my college years sharing three bathrooms with ~70 girls [oh, sorority life!] and the following 3 post-graduate years sharing [usually very tiny] bathrooms with at least one other roommate, I’m pretty excited to have not one but TWO bathrooms all to myself in my current apartment :]

My brother and I had to share a bedroom growing up and so he had to endure things like me sick with the stomach flu and throwing up on the top bunk in the middle of the night!

the first time my boyfriend and i ever lived together, it was in a hotel room that was converted into an apartment. this meant that the living room, bedroom, kitchen and dining area were all ONE room. needless to say, it was a very interesting experience. we have since moved into a place with separate rooms! :)

I once wore a pair of brand-new pumps to a company conference. After a few hours of hobbling around in the too-tight shoes, I developed blisters on my heels. When my name was called to receive an award, I could no longer walk in the shoes. I called out to the women around me, “Is anyone wearing a size 9 black pump?” A stranger a row over came through for me. Thanks for sharing!

We just had a homestudy for adoption and while the social worker was sitting on our couch our dog bounded in, jumped on top of her and all of her paperwork and tried to sit in her lap. Lucky for us, she loves dogs!

SHARE ME!!! My dog, Pete, never shares his food with me, but consistently expects me to share my food, he sneaks into my bed each night and is a horrible sharer of the covers, and he also completely hogs all of his toys. I can promise you that if I win, whatever I pick out will not be shared with Pete! :)

I did not share well when I was younger. Some friends were over and wanted to play with my Legos. I didn’t want to share, so I got sent to my room. The friends got to stay over and play with my Legos while I was stewing away in my room. I have yet to forget how upset I was about that punishment…

Share me….when I was young my family of five shared one bathroom. The person I fought with the most was my older brother. Growing up in the 80s, before school, he would lock me out of the bathroom while he perfectly curled and hairsprayed his hair. We laugh about it now.

The best story I can think of to share is my Grandparents’ love story. My Grandpa came to the US from Sweden by himself when he was 18. And he happened to meet my lovely grandma on his very first day here. 55 happy years of marriage later, they are the best example of love I have ever seen, so much better than the movies :)

Though my husband and I both enjoyed pickles and brownies prior to knowing one another, but he enhanced the pickle-lover in me and I enhanced the brownie-lover in him. Now I will always save the last pickle in the jar for him, and he’ll always save the last brownie (or at least the last bite!) for me. It’s so great knowing that we each save a little treat for the other!

I had to share a hotel room with a co-worker during a conference. We didn’t know each other that well so it was strange at first. Luckily we are both out-going and have now become good friends. What I thought was going to be an uncomfortable couple of days turned out to be lots of fun.

My friend Sheri and I spent 4 weeks in China for a study abroad program. We shared 1 small bathroom that did not have a delineated shower – as in no shower curtain or anything. And, the drain in the floor was extremely slow. We knew it was time to get out of the shower when the water filled up the bathroom floor and started lapping the carpet in our bedroom.

I live in a duplex and its heating/ductwork is shared withe the next door neighbor (utilities are included in rent.) This has been an adventure because it turns out that she “eats a lot of sandwiches” (do you watch How I Met Your Mother). Oh well, we seem to have it sort out now. : )

Sharing an office at work – so hard to get things done with a good friend sitting 3 feet from you! But, at least a good friend is only 3 feet away for 8+ hours a day, 5 days a week. :) There could be worse things!

Talk about bad at sharing – through high school and college, my brother would break up with his girlfriends right before holidays and birthdays like clockwork, so that he didn’t have to give them a gift. When he brought a girlfriend home with him for the holidays, we knew that one would stick. And it did – they have been married for 4 years and my second nephew is on the way any day now!

I make SEVERAL phone calls a day for work and sometimes people tend to share a little too much to a perfect stranger! For example today I was told that the person I was calling to speak with was in the bathroom and it would take quite sometime for him to get back to me because he has been “stopped up for days.” TMI dude I don’t know…TMI!

When I was in kindergarten I was running on tile in socks and I slipped and split my forehead skin open. My Grandmother who was vising at the time swopped me up and pinched it closed, my mom says not a drop of blood was lost, but as we drove to the emergency room I can still remember wailing “grandma don’t let me die”

Ha…my boss tried to get me to share a hotel room with her once…I politely (as possible) said no thanks. Anyway – growing up I wasn’t the only child but I was the only girl so it was quite the shock for me when I had a roommate for the first time in college who shared (or um, helped herself) to all of my stuff. It was a learning experience to say the least!

“Share Me!” – I had lived alone-ish for a long time, and have acquired MANY shoes and articles of clothing over the years. Moving in with my husband, and SHARING closet space and dressers were really hard for me at first.I just have to much stuff!! He is a great sport and gives me as much room as possible. I have learned to pack up out of season clothes, and have thinned out my collections, making many trips to goodwill. Its definitely a work in progress, but I’m getting used to it :)

SHARE ME! Today I’ll share with you the harrowing tale of “did Rooney [my dog] eat the television remote batteries?” I came home at lunch today to find the television remote mangled and dismantled. It was missing buttons, riddled with tooth inflicted gouges, the sensor was removed, and the batteries were missing. Terrified that my dummy ate the batteries, I search high and low until I found them; one under the sofa, the other in the dining room (which was impressive since he’s gated out of the dining room). Both had tooth indentations, but luckily Rooney did not eat any batteries or cause any battery acid leaks. Whew. Happy Monday it is.

Growing up as the oldest of four kids in the jungles of South America, thanks to missionary parents, I thought those days were the most harrowing moments of sharing…tiny galvanized metal “bathtub” for three? four of us sharing one small bedroom? traveling across the country as a family of 6 in a four door sedan?…but no, my life right now has the most harrowing sharing moments. We are a blended family of 8, sharing one small bathroom. 8…in 1…A grown man, a grown woman, two teens (one a girl), two tweens (one a girl) and two preschoolers. HELP!
