Fab Freebie: Sharing The Love

*** This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below! ***

Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!

As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!

Joss Main Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

Ok, so I pretty much had to share everything with my twin sister growing up. But my first NYC apartment comes to mind as my most crazy sharing experience. It was 600 square feet shared between 3 adult roommates. Yikes!

Share me! As an only child, I confess that I’m not the best at sharing…I’m really grateful for all the wonderful roommates I’ve had over the years who put up with me! It’s delightful to have my own house now (and I suspect my old roommates are probably grateful, too–lolol).

Thanks for the chance to win!

In college I lived with twin sisters in a tiny apartment. The twins shared just about everything from their one car, their cell phone and even a bank account. Now that’s some great sharing! The one thing neither of them ever seemed to have was enough running socks. So one would kindly “borrow” socks from me and a few minutes later, the other girl was asking the same thing. They are still my best friends and even today, 6 years later – I’m still getting back some of the clothes I “shared.”

SHARE ME! My harrowing story is about the time I chaperoned a group of high school students on an educational trip abroad, only to have a small electrical fire break out on the plane not long after takeoff. The pilot dropped the plane, landed it in minutes, and we were met by hazmat teams and fire trucks. We all evacuated the plane by chutes. Imagine my panic at trying to round up all these kids and try to explain to parents what had happened. Ay, ay, ay…

I am the youngest of 3 and before I got married (3 years ago), the girls in my family wanted to do something crazy and wild so we went…sky diving! Just my mom, my sister, and I! We had so much fun and loved watching the faces on our friends when we told them our stories. My mom was 54 at the time- everyone loved it! Now to convince my husband to go with me again…. :)

I always tell people sharing comes naturally to me; after all I shared my mom’s uterus with my twin sister! Not to mention then sharing a crib, and a bedroom, and a car, and a dorm room, and so on; so I’ve never really known any differently.

Oh, do I have a harrowing “Sharing” story for you! Back in 2010, my husband and I embarked upon an event known as the BABE Rally (Big Apple to Big Easy…)… a mobile scavenger hunt from New York to New Orleans in a car than can’t have cost you more than $500 to purchase. Now, not only was this my first ever such adventure (he had been twice before), but his father actually came with us. And is incredibly frugal. And we shared a hotel room with him for the entire week-long event. After he walked in on me in only a towel the first morning (way to start it off!) he decided to take his paper down to the lobby until he knew we were both up and out of the shower before returning to the room. So, there was the hotel room that we shared for the entire week as well as our (t)rusty 1976 Buick Skylark (Maroon, of course) with no AC driving through the deep south in June. We shared that car the entire time too. I don’t know if I’m properly conveying the horror I felt all week… I love my father-in-law! It’s just that we had only been married since January and hadn’t taken a honeymoon… and this was one heck of a “bonding with the in-laws” experience! (We had some good times too, though!)

When we were in high school, my sister and I shared a bedroom. She had to be at school an hour before me so she would get ready before I even got up. When I got up and got dressed, my nylons would mysteriously have disappeared. Time after time it would happen. You think I would have learned to hide them!

SHARE ME! When I was a kid, my best friend and I looked a lot alike… we could pass for sisters, even twins. One day we decided to play a prank on our parents. We swapped clothes and when my mom came to pick me up, my friend pretended she was me. My mom nearly took her home before they all realized we had pulled a “Parent Trap”-type swap! It’s still one of our favorite childhood memories!

Share me…..growing up, one of 5 girls, we had to share socks. No one had their own socks, we had a sock drawer and you had to get up early to get a matching pair. That happened about 2 times a week if you were lucky. The rest of the time you wore one decent and one stretched out, falling down anklet or Bobby sox. Needless to say, I have an adult sock fetish and own 50 or 60 pairs. I throw them away before their time and buy more. Love it!!!!!!!

The only sharing experience that comes to mind right now is the fact that for my first job in the real-world we had a 2 week long training that we had a forced roommate with – I couldn’t get over the fact that we felt so much less like adults having “roomies” for 2 weeks, and so much more than college freshman! Not the best example to share with your kids when trying to get them to share though…hehe”

Right now I’m sharing a bathroom with my sister that connects to her room. You can lock the door to the hallway, but not the one to her bedroom. Thus, we decided that whenever the bedroom/bathroom door was shut she would knock. Guess who keeps forgetting and walking in on me? Hopefully we’ll be able to laugh about it in a few years!
