Fab Freebie: Sharing The Love

*** This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below! ***

Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!

As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!

Joss Main Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

Unfortunately, my apartment shares a wall with horrible neighbors. They do their laundry at 1am every single night! Their washer rocks up against our bedroom wall at all hours. I hate sharing! :)

Over the course of the night, I bring our baby in bed with us and fall asleep breastfeeding, and our daughter will crawl into bed around 6:30 and so I wake up most mornings with my husband, our 4 year old, and our four month old all smooshed up against me. It’s fortunate I like them all enough to put up with that.

I’m a twin, so I had to share everything for the first 18 years of my life (no hard feelings) but the day came when we moved away to college…separating those clothes was crazytown!

When I lived in China as a kid, we would see thousands “sharing” the wooden scoop to drink some water from a bucket, while visiting national touristy places…uck.

Thankfully I don’t have any horror stores! The closest thing I can come up with a former coworker who constantly felt the need to overshare all kinds of personal details. I’ll spare you by not sharing again… ick.

SHARE ME! My 2yo daughter had her first playdate at our house this past weekend. I wasn’t sure if she’d understand, but I tried anyway to prep her beforehand by saying Kaden will want to play with her toys so she needs to share them and they can play with them together. She immediately started frantically pointing to random things in the room and claiming them – “MY blocks!! MY kitchen!!” Clearly she understood what I was saying, and was not happy about it!

My mother and aunt shared a beedroom growing up and oftentimes, they’d invite their cousin to sleepover (I refer to her as my aunt as well but clearly she is a cousin once removed). My “real” aunt would sleep in the middle of the pushed together beds since she was youngest and in the middle of the night my mom and my “aunt” would pull the beds apart, making her fall through!!! Talk about harrowing. And it took her a few sleepovers before she learned the lesson…

So it turns out I wasn’t very good at sharing when I was little. My aunt often tells this story of my brother sitting quietly playing with a toy. I went up to him and told him I wanted that toy. So, he gave it to me (as any good big brother would). Then he started playing with a new toy, and I again went up to him and told him I wanted the toy he was playing with. This went on until I had the entire toybox contents surrounding me and he was playing with the last toy. I was such a brat! Thankfully, I’ve learned to share since then.

Growing up, the house had one TV. All of my friends didn’t understand it, and my brother and I often tried to get more TVs in the house, but our parents wouldn’t allow it.

A bunch of years later I’m so glad they had this rule! It forced a lot more family time and if anybody wanted time to themselves it included a book!

In college all the girls I hung with went in on 1 pair of Lucky Jeans because we couldn’t afford them on our own. We used to rotate who got to wear them to the bar. One night, our friend Matt (a roommate of one of the girls) had on a really sexy pair of jeans and after we all complemented him on how great his butt looked in them we realized that he was wearing our jeans and looked better in them then any of us did.

SHARE ME! Growing up I shared a room with my sister. The one good thing to come out of that is now I can sleep with the lights on. We used to fight over who would get up from bed after reading to turn it off and we were both so stubborn we’d stick it out until we fell asleep with it on!

“SHARE ME” – I shared a bedroom and bed with my sister until she got married. Not that we didn’t have space, we both had separate bedrooms, but we just loved spending time together, sharing stories, giggling at night and just being sisters. I think what contributed to this is that we grew up in a very difficult environment with almost nothing, and we got appreciate time spending with each other and not taking things for granted.

Share me! My husband and I went to visit my brother in California for vacation a few years ago. To save on hotels, he let us stay at his studio apartment for a majority of the time and even insisted we sleep in his bed while he took the couch. It was very sweet of him to share what little space he had with us to save money. We had a wonderful time.
