Fab Freebie: Sharing The Love

*** This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below! ***

Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!

As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!

Joss Main Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

Oh, oversharing… I seem to be a magnet for it, even in the bathroom, even about doctor’s visits…

As the oldest child, I was always “mothering” my younger sister (which she always loved, I’m sure). So, as the kind sister I was, I always shared my Barbies with her UNTIL she got mad and ran down the hallway with a Barbie body in one hand and Barbie head in the other. Barbie sharing stopped right then!!! :)

My sister and I had to share a bathroom growing up and we were so awful about it that my mom set a timer – we each got 10 minute turns in the bathroom. when your time was up you had to leave – no matter if you were still washing your hair, only had half your makeup on, whatever, and wait until your next 10 minute shift. We were just vicious! So glad those days are over!

SHARE ME When I was a little girl I used to share my Oreos with my cat, Miss Minnie Anthers. I only liked the dark cookie part, so I would let Miss Minnie lick the white stuff out of the cookie. This worked pretty well, until I got a case of pin worms and my mother said no more sharing with the cat. Gross but true story.

Um, being a mom your kids share all sorts of things … Like yesterday my daughter spit out a piece of dark chocolate and gave it to me… And I ate it of course because wasting dark chocolate is a sin.

All of my sharing stories involve my younger sister and since we did not get along in our younger days, they aren’t all that nice and not worthy of posting on the interwebs. Luckily since we are past that awful teenage-girl stage, we are best friends now. :)

One of my greatest stories involves a public bath house in Turkey. Unfortunately, it’s best to describe it verbally. Much of the (painful) humor is lost when I’ve tried to write it down. So, Just imagine being nekkid, when you don’t speak the language, and there is a very large woman who you paid to assist you to get clean and provide a massage (for the full Turkish Bath Experience!) who is first scrubbing every inch of your body (truly EVERY inch) with what feels like sandpaper, and then beats your poor skinless body into slab of marble (this was part of the massage).
… it was an experience never to be forgotten!

When I was in high school, my brother and I shared a car. Though most kids that age wanted to drive as much as possible, we both did multiple sports and had jobs so we were always pretty sleep deprived, so we would actually argue over who had to drive to school in the morning.

SHARE ME! We live across the street from my brother and his family so whenever anyone needs an odd ingredient for a recipe or a last minute babysitter we call on each other for help. We also share in the holiday meal prep…that way there are 2 ovens/stovetops able to get things ready on time. :)

I’m usually pretty good at sharing, but I vividly remember being a kid in elementary school and seeing kids share candy with friends and classmates and wondering to myself why/how they could possibly give their candy away. I mean, it’s so delicious. I’ve grown a lot in the last 25 years, and have learned to share, even my candy, but I still kinda wish I didn’t have to. ;)

SHARE ME! In the late 60’s, as the oldest of 7 children, and sick and tired of sharing my posessions…I convinced my parents to let me have a lock (with key) on my bedroom door. One day at school I came face to face with my 11 month younger sister and noticed she was wearing MY Easter shoes. No words could express my anger any clearer than “GIVE ME MY SHOES !!!!!” Turns out, after she walked home from school shoeless (it was at the end of the day), she explained how she would crawl on her belly from her attic bedroom thru the crawl space to mine….make her selections and off to school she would go. Wonderful thing is she is a great sister, the best (all my sisters and brothers are) she would give me the shirt off her back, and once we all grew up and had families of our own we realized how much love we had for each other and how willing we are to share whatever we have.

At my wedding this past summer, when my sister was giving her maid of honor toast, she talked about how ridiculously close the two of us are. She said that when my husband and I started getting serious, she got scared that she was going to have to share me and things would never be the same. Thankfully, the two of them get along almost as well, so the sharing isn’t a burden – it just made our relationship that much better!

Growing up and while living on campus during college, I always had the worst time sharing a bathroom with anyone because I CANNOT handle the sound/sight of anyone else brushing their teeth. My roommates used to torture me with it! I’ve gotten a bit better now that I share a bathroom with my husband, but I still tend to steer clear of the area until he’s brushed/spit/rinsed and moved on! :)

I love sharing my side of my bed with my little 2.5 year old bean. Unfortunately, I don’t think he likes to share that side with me. Somehow my kid and my husband make a giant upside-down L shape in my bed with kid taking up my entire pillow as an extra plush bed spread for him. I wake up with foot on forehead and wonder why I don’t feel rested.

When I was in college, I was in a car accident. I wasn’t injured, but my car was totaled. I worked part time at a Hallmark store, had one year left of school, and I lived with my parents. So, my mom convinced me to share her car for that year, instead of put myself in a financial bind by trying to buy something.

We ended up sharing her car for two years, and my mother deserves a medal for putting up with my crazy schedule and my whiny-college aged girl brattiness for so long.

On Friday during my lunch break at school- the fire alarm goes off. (Fire alarm and 9/10th grade lunch= never a good idea). We knew it wasn’t a drill. It ended up being a bomb threat. I sat with 400 students at the football stadium while they searched the building (and like small children- they ALL had to go to the bathroom at the same time!). We waited an hour before the school got the all clear- no bomb! What a way to spend a friday.

SHARE ME! When I was applying for a job I got an email from the Principal. I was SO excited that it sounded like I was in one of the top spots to get the job, that I wanted to forward the email to my sister to show her. But, instead I accidentally hit “reply” and sent a whole personal email to the principal! I realized it right away, sent an apology email and tried to laugh about it. I actually got an interview, brought it up at the interview as I was talking about my “ability to use technology in the classroom” :) haha and I got the job! The Principal said that he liked how I arose gracefully from a rather embarassing mistake. HA!

I was the youngest of 3 girls, and by quite a lot…6 and 8 years. Because I was so much smaller than my sisters, I always had to sit in the middle of the back seat. I always hated it, but it was especially bad when we’d drive 3 hours to see my grandmother for Christmas. Not only would I be crammed by there in between my sisters, but we’d all have to ride with presents/luggage sitting on our laps the whole time (everything couldn’t fit in the trunk). Our poor little dog was even scrunched…she had to stay curled up at my mom’s feet on the floor of passenger side. Kids today don’t know how good they have it with mini vans and portable DVD players!

I shared a room with my older sister until I was five. My two brothers shared a room, too. Then when I was in Kindergarten, we moved into a much bigger house where we all got our own rooms. My older siblings all loved it, but it just made me lonely! So for the first three years we were in that house, I would go into my sister’s room at night and crawl in bed with her. She didn’t mind it until she reached her teens, at which point she kicked me out :/
