Fab Freebie: Sharing The Love

*** This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below! ***

Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!

As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!

Joss Main Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

My oldest (12) is starting to understand the concept of sharing with those less fortunate. It warms my heart when he expresses a desire to help others. Although that help sometimes comes straight from my pocket because he hasn’t yet learned how much we can afford to help, I hope his sharing continues to grow.

My father in law has 3 outdoor cats that he feeds. The littlest one does not like to share the food. He’s not even a year old and he eats first, then another, then the third. The other 2 wait patiently on the porch for their turn. It’s a funny sight.

Sharing a bathroom on vacation to a developing country
I’m pretty sure this is as an embarrassing sharing story that one can have, I hope you feel the same. Otherwise, I may regret posting this on the world wide web!
My fiancé, back when we had first started dating traveled to India together. The trip was my idea, and him being of Indian descent, he agreed that it would be fun. However, there is such thing called “Delhi Belly” and we took turns being very sick throughout the trip, not being accustomed to the food. Sharing a bathroom, sometimes in cottages at the top of the mountains was a challenge. But sharing makes you stronger – we are now getting married in 6 months. :)

Share me! My sister and I both had seperate bedrooms, but one summer decided we wanted to share. My mom, knowing our “sisterly” relationship was not exactly on board. After a full week of begging we bunked our beds in “my” room and turned her room into the playroom. Well we were ready to call it quits after about a week, but mom made us stick it out all summer. In the end great memories where made and we still laugh about that summer!

SHARE ME! It’s almost impossible to fathom today, but when I was in high school in the ’90s, mobile phones were becoming more common (no, not the Zack Morris cell phone; though I had the same StarTAC phone as Dawson Leary in college!).

When both my sister and I started driving, my parents got a “family” mobile phone. So whoever was taking a car, or just out for the night, would take the phone with them. Can you imagine sharing your phone today?!

    “Share Me!”

In college I took a spring break trip with my boyfriend and two other couples who were friends of ours. When we got to Hilton Head we realized that two couples would have to share a bedroom with two queen beds. I can clearly remember just trying to fall asleep as fast as possible every night. It didn’t matter if we had all had a few drinks, it was awkward trying to fall asleep with another couple snuggled up in their bed a few feet away. None of us wanted to make a sound. haha

My story isn’t about sharing a tangible thing, but about sharing the blame for something when I was younger. My sister hated turtlenecks, so she decided to cut the necks off of all of hers one day. Well, I had already been in trouble for some scissor-related rebellion–I actually gave her bangs in her sleep!–so my sister told my mom I had done it, and for some reason (perhaps my guilt over cutting her hair?!) I said it was me. For a year my preschool confiscated my scissors. Finally, my sister confessed when she was stricken with chicken pox and convinced she was on her death bed.

My sister and I shared a room growing up, and I’m pretty sure at one point we had a masking-tape line down the center of the room separating our “stuff”. She was a mess and I was a neat freak. Since that time she’s become way neater and I’ve loosened up (somewhat!). Ha.

Like most of us, I probably have lots of nice sharing stories. But the most amusing is probably from when I was 23 and in my first “real job” (blah, I work at home now- hallelujah!) and I had to share a cube with another person. Day one: We meet, chat a little, I sit at my desk and mostly mind my business. Day two: I walk in and in masking tape is a line down the middle of the cubicle indicating “sides.” The best part was, there was a line down the MIDDLE OF THE PRINTER. The printer we shared. I told her “Oh, okay. Well, then we’d better split the black and white for printing, too. I get black.” I’ve always been sarcastic and there’s nothing like working in cube land to bring that out. :)

I still remember Christmas when I was 9ish and we were at my then-4year old cousin’s house. Every toy I tried to play with, she needed to play with too. And her refrain was “Share with me!”.

Having an almost-1yr old and just started babysitting an almost-3yr old, I am remembering that instance a lot.

To little ones, sharing means share with THEM.

One of my favorite memories with my sister is when we shared a cup of soda at the movies. It was the sad part of a kids’ comedy, and we both leaned in to take a drink at the same time. We bonked heads, and laughed Really Loud and annoyed the entire audience. They must have thought we were totally insensitive.

This is one of the best questions ever! People’s responses are fabulous. :-)
