Fab Freebie: Sharing The Love

*** This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below! ***

Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!

As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!

Joss Main Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

I used to eat with my right hand and guard my plate with my left hand and arm. I didn’t have a sharing problem, except when it came to my dinner!

My college roommate would share my things with her friends…I’d come back to the dorm room after class, and my TV would be missing, or my hairdryer, or my stereo. She was from Japan, where maybe there is more a culture of sharing…? She was always surprised when I’d get upset and ask her to ask me first before offering my TV to someone else!

SHARE ME! Ugh, teaching m children to share is a never ending battle. The worst is when my 3 year old cannot understand that the baby is too little to be a good sharer and I can’t really explain it without just saying that life isn’t fair. Sigh. My 8 yr old doesn’t give me any hope that this will end soon either.

I once took a weekend road trip to visit my husband with his best friend. This was before we were married and when he was living 9 hours away for a college internship. On our way home, the roads closed down due to a blizzard. So we got to share a dingy little motel room, with one bed, about 6 hours from home, overnight, in a podunk town! He managed to get some sleep but I sat up all night watching the weather and infomercials. As soon as the roads opened (at 3am) I forced him into the car and we headed home with me at the wheel. He woke up and took over driving at about 6am and we both made it to our afternoon classes that day! He made sure to share the story during his “best man” speech at our wedding – I know it’s something we’ll never forget!

A touching story: I recently questioned an unaccounted for $20 on a grocery receipt my husband had brought home. My heart melted when he informed me that he had gone outside and brought a homeless man in to buy groceries that had asked him for some change on the way in. I was so touched that he did something so nice and generous and wasn’t boastful about it because if that were me, it would have been the first thing out of my mouth when I came in the door)! A great reminder to myself to keep paying it forward, regardless of who is watching!

SHARE ME! One of my favorite ways to reinforce to kids the act of sharing is to give them graham crackers and peanut butter (plastic knife, natch), and ask them to make a sandwich out of them – with one hand! It’s always hilarious and touching to see that support and encouragement that kids give each other. One little girl approached another who was becoming frustrated at the task and, before I could get there to soothe the weepy little girl, the first girl put her hand sweetly on the cheek of the other and said, very seriously, “It’s okay. We’ll do it together.” And they did. I might have just been a bit weepy after that, too.

we have tried on a few occasions to share our bed with our two chihuahuas, bea and henry, and we always regret it. henry gets hot, then cold, then hot (all the while climbing in and out of the covers) and occasionally jumps out of bed and then isn’t able to jump back up. bea is a perfect angel, but we feel guilty letting her sleep with us but leaving henry out.

Hmm… can I talk about how my 3 precious princesses share a room and they LOVE it? I worried that 3 would make them feel crowded… but we put bunkbeds in and the littlest one is in a toddler bed. It’s working better than I could have imagined–until we’re ready to get a bigger house!

Growing up, my brother and I shared a room (he’s 3 years younger). We had two twin beds that were up against the long wall with a tall open square bookcase between them at our feet. Since our heads were far away from each other, we couldn’t really talk after lights out. It really worked fine because we kinda forgot the other was there for the most part. Probably good that it only last until I was 8.

Share me!! YAY! I went on Spring Break with 8 guys and one other girl my junior year in college and (being poor college students) we shared a single room for 10 people in New Orleans. It was a MESS in every way you can imagine. I don’t care what anyone says, boys use an unnnatural amount of time and products to primp for a night on the town. :-)
