Fab Freebie: Sharing The Love

*** This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below! ***

Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!

As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!

Joss Main Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

My grandmother took my little brother and I to Italy for our Christmas present when we were pretty young. Maybe 6 and 7? Anyways, as the Italian’s like their big coursed meals – we had to partake in it all. And that meant soup, salad, bread, meat, pasta….ugh alot of food. Since we were small, we shared a bed during that trip and most nights, full from soup, meant that someone would pee the bed! Most terrible is that we didn’t know which one of us did it, since we were together. Ahhh the bonds of siblings.

Well, my sister and I have had to share a lot. We were born one day apart (plus 4 years) so we always had to have a shared birthday party and birthday cake. We hated it as kids but it’s not so bad now. We had to share a bedroom too which my sister drew a line (with duct tape) down the middle of since I was a messy kid & she was a neat freak. :)

When I was 2.5 and my sister was 1.5 she wanted the baby buggy I was pushing. I moved over to share with her but that wasn’t good enough, she wanted the whole thing to herself. So she bent down to bite my hand but she actually bit her own hand (and drew blood)!

My BF and I are both graduate students, and, as such, we’re always pretty strapped for cash. For his birthday, I sprung for tickets to a comedy show, where we shared a table with a super-sweet couple from Michigan. I had planned on picking up our drinks as part of his birthday gift, but when the check came the couple from Michigan picked it up! I don’t know if they realized how much that meant to some super-broke grad students, but it was an act of kindness that has really stuck with me. If you read this, thanks Wendy and Kevin!

I got the chicken pox when I was five or six, and my mom was determined that my little brother would get them at the same time so that she could kill two birds with one stone. She made us share cups, silverware, bedtime t-shirts, baths (well, that was normal), you name it. He did not get the chicken pox. Little did she know that another child was in her future and wouldn’t you know, my brother and sister did end up sharing chicken pox several years later. :)

This past Superbowl, my boyfriend and I had decided we were just going to sit at home with some takeout. Twenty minutes after we ordered, we were debating on who had to make the daunting 5 block journey. After loosing a heated rock-paper-scissors battle, I reluctantly grabbed my coat and said, “You know, your gonna feel real bad if I get in an accident or something.” (We live in North Dakota and I have had my share of winter fender benders.)”I’m not bringing my phone so don’t bother calling!” I slammed the door and made it to the restaurant to pick up the food. I got back to the driveway, opened the car door, made it 3 steps, then BAM. I fell on the ice and broke my ankle. My immaturity got the best of me, since I didn’t bring my phone I had to lay out on the cold cement and try to get his attention from inside the house. Five agonizing minutes later, I hit the alarm on my AutoStart.

We just got back from a vacation with our three-year-old twins and we were shocked to realized it was our first time away from home with them where the fun-to-stress ration wasn’t out of control. The fun with twins and fun as a family is finally outweighing the difficulty of having two at a time. So I guess I’d say the twin pregnancy and first three years were our harrowing experience (oh yeah, I’d say that, in so many ways); I’m looking forward to more experiences where we’re pleasantly surprised!

Had I won, I was planning to share a lot with my friends, family, and worthy causes. I’ll take that as a kick in the butt to share a bit more of my MinisculeMoola that I do have.

I’m pretty sure every mother that has nursed her little one has had a moment like this…When my son was about 6 months old, I decided to put him in the seat of the cart for the first time at Lowes. I was in line to check out and he grabbed the front of my tank top and yanked it down showing all of the goods. Of course there were mostly men around and I KNOW some of them saw but the female cashier said, “Lunch time?” How embarassing…

When I was little and we’d go on family trips, I’d always have to share a hotel bed with my older sister. Anytime I’d move as much as a toe, I’d get awoken by my sister yelling “QUIT MOVING!!!” I’ve since been scarred for life and anytime I share a bed with someone, I sleep like a stone.

Coming from a family of six children I pretty much shared EVERYTHING. We five sisters had a rule that you had two months to wear a new item of clothing. After that, it was fair game! When I left for college we didn’t know for sure which clothes were mine and which were theirs. To this day when we go over to each other’s houses we borrow pants/belts/dresses/etc. Old habits die hard! :)

At work we have these amazing desks that conver between sitting and standing desks via an easy to use crank system. The harrowing part of my tale comes after a week of vacation when I came back to find that someone had borrowed my desk crank…I haven’t sat down since!

I shared a bedroom with my sister until I was 10 (and she was 14). Apparently I used to really creep her out because I would slooowly sit up in bed while still asleep (like the way Michael Myers, Jason, etc. would in the horror movies when the protagonist hadn’t quite finished them off) and then just walk over and stand next to her bed, eyes open but not responsive. She was pretty happy to get her own room after stuff like that.

SHARE ME! While expecting my second child, I asked my 3 year old what he would like to name the baby. He chose George and threw a fit if anyone tried to suggest anything else. By the time the baby arrived George had grown on me, so we went with it. About two months later my son looked over at his little brother and announced that he didn’t like Georgd anymore, so let’s just call him Charlie instead.
