Fab Freebie: Sharing The Love

*** This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below! ***

Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!

As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!

Joss Main Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

My best friend and I shared a bunk bed in a hostel in Scotland when we were in college. In the top bunk, I woke up in the middle of the night so hot that I could hardly breathe, so I opened a nearby window. She woke up shortly thereafter freezing cold and being snowed on.

When I was little, my older sister got down on her knees to be at my height so we could share the microphone at my Grandfather’s retirement party. Wanting to be just like her, I did the exact same thing and kneeled beside her. I defeated her purpose to share, but A for effort, right?

Share me! This morning I found my 3 year old rolling in sprinkles. The sprinkles are kept in a squeaky drawer so I can here when he gets into them. There was no warning squeak this time though. Apparently he had hid them in the couch the night before, while everyone was sleeping. Since he was back in bed by the time I woke up, I was completely surprised by his ingenuity.

Share me!!! I have three little boys, and I never would’ve thought it would be so difficult getting them to share sometimes. But I really treasure those moments when my 5yo is so kind to his 2 1/2yo brother, helping him put toys together or asking his toy questions with his own toy. It’s precious!

“SHARE ME” – one time one of the VP(male VP) came into the women’s bathroom to tell one of my women co-workers she is need in a meeting. I told him she was in there and should be back in a minute, but I guess a minute was too long. She was mortifed!

Over-sharing here – but I remember packing white capris to wear at my in-laws and forgetting “nude” colored underwear. Guess who shared with me?? Good thing I get along with my mother-in-law! ;-)

My favorite wedding present was a poem by Austin Kleon
“marriage is two people in love standing in the same bathroom”
which is a bit ironic because I hate sharing my bathroom with anyone. Thank goodness for dual sinks.

SHARE ME! The most recent story I remember about sharing was when I was coloring with my 8 yr old cousin and she didn’t want to share a particular color with me, so I stopped coloring with her. She got really mad and said I was being mean and complained to her mom who agreed with me and told her to share, but she still wouldn’t. I’m not sure she learned her lesson. :)

I am a music teacher. One of my 9 year old students died in her sleep this year. I was heart broken. Not only did I miss her, but I wondered if I had done enough in her life to really touch her. Then I saw that her grandmother had posted a youtube video of her singing a song and playing the piano for her family. It was a song that I had taught her over a year ago. It’s how I was able to grieve and move on from the death of a child. I touched her, guys! And I have the proof :-)

Sharing a house with roommates can get awkward sometimes! Specially when your roommate’s boyfriend decides to live in your own room, sharing a twin bed with your roommate! Thanks heaven for comfy couches in the living room! Haha!!!! I would love to win this! I’ craving for a RUG from Joss and main!

To this day, my cousin (who is 35) still shudders in fear when he tells the story about one of our cousin sleep-overs sharing sleep space on the family room floor… (I had night terrors when I was little) and he awoke one night to 3-year-old-me just sitting straight up staring at him. Creeeepy… :o)

A few weeks ago, I helped my mom clean out her garage. We found bags of Barbies, books, Beanie Babies that belonged to my sister and me – the problem is, we ‘shared’ them, so neither one of us is willing to let the other one keep anything for herself. So, they still sit in my mom’s garage- I guess we’re technically still sharing them.

My parents left my then 5-year old brother at a rest stop in Georgia.

My sister and I were sleeping in the back. My parents and brother got out to use the restroom. A case of I-thought-he-was-with-you.

Then a high-speed police chase happened on the freeway behind us, so my dad jumped in the van to follow and see what happened. We woke up and watched too. Then I realized my brother wasn’t there. We were maybe 3 minutes down the road, but we had to exit, get back on the freeway the other way, exit again, and return the original direction. My mother was a WRECK.

When we got back, my brother was sitting on the curb. He wasn’t crying. He was mad b/c my dad gave him a dollar for the vending machine. Rice Krispy treats were 55 cents and he didn’t have enough money to get two.

SHARE ME! When my kids are having trouble getting along, it often helps to have them work on a chore together — whether it’s cleaning a bathroom, putting away laundry, etc. They usually end up laughing and having so much fun that I have to remind them they are supposed to be working. If you are on a trip to the zoo or something and the kids aren’t getting along, it’s fun to make them walk together holding hands. At first they REALLY don’t like it, but they eventually end up having fun that way, too. :-)

In lieu of Easter coming up… one Easter way back in high school I drove up to spend it with my boyfriend (at the time’s) parents. The moment I walked outside and the sun hit my face, I sneezed. And, with that sneeze I peed. I’m a sneeze peer. I was an hour from home, in a house full of his family, with wet pants. It has to be one of my all time awkward/embarrassing moments.

The only time in my life I’ve ever been able to keep my room clean was when I shared a room with a girl in college I didn’t know or click with. Whenever I felt the awkwardness of silence build up, I acted like I was busy by putting things away.
If you could’ve seen my room that semester, you’d know there were a LOT of awkward moments. It was always spotless!

The day I met my now husband was in college, and one of my friends had made me go with her to be on their dodgeball team. I am horrible at dodgeball but reluctantly went. When the game started, I noted that this guy on our team threw like he was trying to impress someone, but I thought he just looked goofy. Well as it turns out… that was my husband! I love him for being goofy and making such an impression on me.
