Fab Freebie: Sharing The Love

*** This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below! ***

Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!

As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!

Joss Main Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

I am pregnant for the first time and I felt my baby move for the first time last week. I sat at my desk which is the front desk in a politician’s office and cried. I felt silly crying but it was the most amazing thing to feel my baby move. I’m sure many women can relate!

We’re teaching our toddler to share. She enjoys it so much that she’ll spit food out of her mouth and try to feed it to other kids. She then praises herself by saying she’s a “goo geer” (good girl) for sharing. Never thought I could be proud, disgusted, and laugh all at the same time.

Sharing a room with my sister growing up. We are still ridiculously close today but we definitely had some interesting fights. I remember once we had a fist fight over the radio being on vs. off. Good times!

This one time, during photo session, I was taking a photo of a 7 month old bare bottomed and she was doing very well. I of course commented on well she was doing out loud, because 2 seconds after saying that, she peed all over the set!

I remember when I got to summer camp when I was 16 or 17… to a room I would be sharing with three other girls that only had two double beds. Awkward! But it worked out. :)

I was terrible at sharing as a kid. When my mom would give my sister and I a pack of M&Ms or Skittles and tell me to share it evenly, this is how I counted: 1 for you, 1 for me; two for you, one-two for me (giving her one, and me two); three for you, one-two-three for me (one for her, three for me), and so on. I HAVE improved. But it was a struggle. ;)

Do hand me downs count as sharing? I think so. Anyway- basically up until the time I was 13 all of my clothes were hand my downs from my big sisters. Mom kept almost every article of clothing of theirs to ensure that baby #5 wouldn’t break the bank- and she’s a diehard cheap-o. ;-)

I am one of six children in a family with four girls and two boys. When we used to vacation when we were younger my parents would get two rooms. My mom would stay in one room with my three older sisters. As the youngest I always had to share the room with my dad and brothers. I’m sure I said “not fair” time and time again!

In middle school my class went on a trip to DC to see the capital. We got to choose who we would stay with in hotels, but my friends and I had an odd number in our room so another girl who we knew but were not close with joined us. I was elected to share a bed with her and while she was quite nice she would take ALL the covers at night and I was too timid to grab some back. The plus side to this story was she would sing garbled michael jackson songs in her sleep with stand out lyrics like, “The chin is not my son.”

A funny story after my wife’s emergency (and scary) c-section, was after they had our son out safe and were done stitching her up, they were wheeling her down the hall to recovery, but we got to say hi quick before they took her away. He gives our son his first kiss and says “Well that wasn’t so bad, I don’t know what all those women are complaining about”… Mind you she doesn’t’ remember saying any of that, but it was great to have a lighter mood then, than when we first came into the hospital.

So, funny story…what girl doesn’t get ready in her underwear? I certainly do in the comfort of my own house. Last summer I was jamming out to some Florence and the Machine (think the scene in Risky Business but a little fleshier) and it was cranked up pretty loud so I didn’t hear my parents come in when they spontaneously stopped by for a visit. So yeah…that was a little more of me than they were expecting to see!

Because he’d already done the house-fixing chores, yesterday my hubby decided to help me in the kitchen. He took on the task of making Rogbord, a Danish rye bread. It was from a mix we got two summers ago in Denmark. The dear boy mixed and measured (deciliters…converted a million times) and got batter on the wall and greased the pan with so much butter I was dying. The guy was at work for over an hour translating the directions from Danish and it was KILLING me how hysterical it all was. Finally, at the end, he calls his Danish mother. Reads her the directions. All he had to do was add yeast and water!! The poor thing, he finally baked it, and the flour had gone bad. So laughed our butts off and then took the frozen Trader Joe’s Rogbord out of the freezer. Love that boy of mine–A for effort!

From the time I was a freshman in college and my brother was a sophomore in high school, there was a much-loved, oversized sweatshirt of mine that my brother decided should actually be his. We “shared” it by stealing it from each other whenever I would come home with laundry. It would disappear until the next time I came home and I could take it back. It finally wore out about three years later.

SHARE ME! scary story… Last year our teeny home was invaded with brown recluse spiders! Btw, we live in a home with only three small rooms. Three trips from the pest guy, two cans of raid, and 76 dead spider bodies later, we were free of spiders! In the end, I found the egg sac under the skirt of the couch. Two straight weeks of diligence paid off!
