Fab Freebie: Sharing The Love

*** This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below! ***

Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!

As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!

Joss Main Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

I remember fondly the days when we used to share snacks with strangers on the trains in India. That was back in the day. Nowadays, everyone is aware of criminals who ‘share’ snacks laced with narcotics that put you to sleep so they can run off with all your stuff- so whenever we travel on trains, the standing advice ‘ don’t eat anything from a stranger!’

SHARE ME! Someone once commented how it was odd that my husband and I shared a drink from the same water bottle, but then she mentioned she shared a toothbrush with her husband. Maybe it’s just me, but toothbrushes? That seems much worse.

As for a story, how about making such a rude, embarassing idiot of myself the first time I met my husband that I effectively blocked out the fact that it was him I said all those things to (I remembered the event, just not the face) and was only reminded about 7 or 8 years later when relating the story to friends and he said “you know that was me, right?” Ack!

When my boyfriend and I moved into our first apartment together, it was a TINY studio apartment in Manhattan. We shared this space for a year and 3 months, and although it was really hard at times, I do firmly believe it made us a stronger couple in the long run.

I think my funniest sharing moment was when I was leaving a store and shared with my cousin the awkwardness of paying. I reached into my pocket for the cash and along with it pulled out a huge wad of pocket lint that went flying everywhere. That embarrassment probably would have been forgotten if I hadn’t looked up to see my cousin 30 feet ahead of me and realized that I had been sharing this story with a perfect stranger who, understandably enough, was quite puzzled as to why I was telling her!

I helped a dear friend Nina with her mother’s Alzheimer illness. We went to many nursing homes to look for just the perfect place for her to be and I visited her mom often. Nina and her mom both love makeup and Nina would go and put makeup on her mom almost every day so that she would always look beautiful. Her mom got worse and passed away. I helped my friend plan her mom’s funeral service and then Nina asked me to help her do one more thing – to go to the funeral home to put makeup on her mom. I went. I was there for her and I shared my time. It was hard but I did it.

Growing up, family trips were both awesome and terrible. It was awesome traveling and hanging out together. Terrible because it meant three of us were victimized by my father’s horrible, incessant snoring! Seriously, everyone – well, everyone but my father – dreaded bedtime.

I had a business trip with 3 others to a different state at a location/town I used to work at so I thought I had the logistics all figured out. Our last night there I was supposed to fly out early. My flight wasn’t until evening so I directed everyone to the awesome Japanese restaurant across town. We left in plenty of time for me to get to the tiny airport… or so I thought. I got there, waved goodbye to everyone else, and tried to check in. The automated machine wouldn’t let me check in, and there wasn’t anyone behind the desk. I ended up watching my flight take off from behind the security screening area since I couldn’t get my boarding pass. It was the last flight of the night so I had to call my co-workers and have them pick me up and I got to spend an awkward night with the only other female in our group. Why wasn’t anyone around to check me in? The airport’s so small that the counterperson is also on the flight crew, and she left the desk to help the plane take off!

Growing up whenever we were allowed to order dessert at a restaurant my brother, sister and I all had to share one. We are probably the 3 worst “sharer’s” in the world. Dessert always became an eating contest to see who could get the most, the fastest.

Whenever I get together with my sister-in-law, it never fails that we end up talking about something we’ve seen on your blog. It usually start something like, “Hey what do you think that new light fixture that John and Sherry just put up?” And then we begin to discuss it as if you guys are our neighbors down the street. Seriously, even though we’ve never met you in real life we feel like we know you! And both of our houses are full of things inspired by your blog.

“Share Me” Before my husband and I were married and I was still in school, we shared our home with four other people. Six of us, (including two cats, fish, and a turtle) in a cramped townhome. Luckily we had more than one bathroom and didn’t have to share the commode!
