Fab Freebie: Sharing The Love

*** This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below! ***

Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!

As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!

Joss Main Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

One of my favorite things about my husband is that he will always share with me, even if I wait to ask until he only has 1 bite of cookie left :)

How’s this for sharing? We had only five Tagalongs (you know, the awesomest Girl Scout cookie on earth?) left last night, so I suggested to my boyfriend that we have Do-Si-Dos for dessert last night instead. And then, while he was at work today and I was working from home, I ate the last five Tagalongs ALL BY MYSELF.

When my favorite food is involved, I’m not very good at sharing.

Back in the days before car seats, my parents decided to put a wooden play-pen in the back of our station wagon for my little sister and I to share… from Richmond to Jacksonville! It’s horrifying to think of now, but I remember thinking it was pretty cool then.

SHARE ME…When I was little, I remember going to school with another girl who didn’t have a lot of things. She always wore clothes that were far too small, her shoes didn’t fit her well, and she was always dirty. Nobody ever played with her, and I had had enough! At recess, I asked her to play with me and she told me about her dad would hit her mom. Coming from a broken home myself, I felt I had to do something. So, I gave her my favorite Lady Lovely Locks doll to make her happy. She had been admiring it the whole time, and being 8, I knew it would make her smile. Every day after that, she carried that doll everywhere. She moved away at the end of the year, and I never saw her again. To this day, though, I still think I was wise FAR beyond my age!

Well I guess the most sharing I have ever done is the fact that for the last two years my boyfriend and I have shared a 15*10 room in his mother’s house for the past 2 years. Though it had worked out that it made it possible for us to save money for our first house, most importantly it made it possible for my boyfriend to continue to help care for his quadrapalegic brother as he has been doing for the past 12 years, and he is only just now turning 24. It hasn’t been easy, nor are we saints, but I think can be proud of ourselves for how we have made it work :)

SHARE ME! Growing up in the early 90’s when it was cool for a girl to wear guys clothes, my younger brother used to always want to wear my clothes. I used to ask him if he wants me to tell everyone he’s wearing/sharing his sisters clothes! ha!

SHARE ME! I am not good AT ALL with sharing my son with people! I’m a stay at home mom with a hubby who travels a lot and as much as I know I SHOULD give myself a break and take my son to a sitter once in a while, I have a hard time doing so. I stay at home so I can raise him and. Like it that way! If I HAD to work outside the home I know I’d feel differently and I wouldn’t have such a hard time hiring a sitter but that’s not the case… That sounds crazy typing it, but it’s true, I really miss him when I’m not with him!! Maybe after #2, I’ll feel differently?! Lol

I once had to share a hostel room with two friends. It shouldn’t have been a big deal since the room said it had 3 beds. Well, it turns out there were only 2! Luckily, there was an extra mattress in the room two of us didn’t have to share a bed.

My sister and I shared a bedroom until I was in 5th grade and we could not wait to get our own rooms. When we finally did, the two rooms we were in had a common wall which was a big accordion. Our beds were on either side of the wall and we frequently opened the wall part way so we could watch TV together or chat. Of course we could close the wall anytime we were mad at each other too!

I had to share a bedroom with my younger sister till my dad built on an addition to our house. Then when I moved into the new room, she moved in too. She would steal my things and make me play Barbie with her in order for her to return them.

It’s taken my husband (an only child) almost 10 years to learn to share food with me. Whenever we eat out, I always want to either split one dish or get two to try both. For the longest time he wouldn’t go for it! He wanted his whole meal for himself! He at least let’s me have a bite or two nowadays. As long as I ask before he starts eating. :)

I’m bad at sharing yummy food that is considered a ‘treat.’ We don’t often buy these treats for our kitchen but when me do I get really mad when my husband busts into them and eats them quickly. So on said treats I’ve administered a ration. My husband will now pull out food and ask me “is this rationed?”

Will try to not make it too long but here is my sharing story of how my 2 dogs (female weimaraners) did NOT share their bones. Got home from grocery shopping, errands etc, gave the dogs a bone each in yard to keep them occupied while I did house things. 5 minutes later 1 dog comes running into the house, sans bone. Go outside to see where it is thinking 2nd dog stole it. As we walk out 1st dog goes barking and charging at fence, which gurantees that 2nd dog will follow. 1st dog drops back, steals other dogs bone. Turns out 1st dog had buried her bone behind the wood pile and conspired to steal the last bone! She was told stealing is not acceptable and to share please :)

Last week, my brothers, parents and I took a trip with just the five of us for the first time in over a decade (usually spouses/significant others come too, but they were working this time).

We rented a mini-van for a 10-hour road trip, and I swear we reverted back to eight year olds when it came to sharing the backseat. “I call the middle row!” “No, *I* call it!” It was a loooong 10 hours!

One story my good friend and I still talk about is the time we went to South America to visit a good friend and her family. They put us up in a cabin in the jungle (which was incredibly generous) but we had to share a bed. So there we were lying head to toe when a torrential downpour started. Within minutes water was dripping through the thatch and onto us. ALL NIGHT LONG. Sometimes we’ll call each other and just say, “drip drip splat!” and laugh.

First year teaching (4th graders) I split my pants the 3rd day of school in front of my kids. Had to wear some junior pants from the school closet. Then… we were giving a county mandated test. As I was passing out the materials to my “dead” silent class, one boy spoke up to tell me that my fly was unzipped. Needless to say, you loose all pride when you go into teaching! :)
